Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) said he plans to vote for Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore in the Alabama Senate race because of the importance of the conservative agenda.
"America faces huge challenges that are vastly more important than contested sexual allegations from four decades ago," Brooks told AL.com in a text message.
"Who will vote in America's best interests on Supreme Court justices, deficit and debt, economic growth, border security, national defense, and the like? Socialist Democrat Doug Jones will vote wrong. Roy Moore will vote right. Hence, I will vote for Roy Moore."
His comments come as Moore is facing increasing pressure to step aside in the Alabama Senate race after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct. The Washington Post reported last week that a woman accused Moore of initiating a sexual encounter with her when she was 14 and he was 32.
On Monday, a woman came forward and accused Moore of sexually assaulting her in a diner parking lot when she was a teenager.
Moore has denied the allegations and indicated he plans to stay in the race.
Brooks said as an attorney, he knows "accusations are easy."
"Proving them to the satisfaction of a judge, a jury, or here, voters, is another thing," he said.
"I do not know enough of the evidence to know with confidence what the true facts are."
He added: "There are millions of people in America who would lie in a heartbeat if it meant adding another Democrat to the Senate."

In America, everyone is supposed to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Also in America, we have a statute of limitations for most criminal conduct including the alleged conduct, because of the impact of the passage of time and how that time impacts testimony. Roy Moore has this protection, the same as any American. It doesn't mean the women are lying, most of them are Republicans who voted for Trump, some may have even voted for Moore in the primary. It doesn't mean he may not have frightened them or mistreated them, he may have, after all, at the time he was a Democrat in a power position.

Roy Moore has not only changed his politics since then, he's lived a good family life with his wife of at least 30 years and 4 children. Whoever Roy Moore was in the late 70's, he is not that same person today and has almost 4 decades of good living to prove it. This is a man who graduated from West Point, served his country in one of our most awful wars, then came home and went to law school. He reads the Bible, became a Republican and whether you agree with his policies, positions, religion or personality or not, he has won his right to be in this general election for the voters of Alabama to decide who will be their next Senator.

And if Roy Moore wins the election, under the US Constitution, he is absolutely qualified and entitled under our laws to be the next US Senator from Alabama.

Everyone is presumed innocent and this country has forgotten that. Today, all it takes is a accusation - not a legal charge or indictment, just someone making accusations. That is wrong - it is very, very dangerous.

I won't cut him any slack if this is true, regardless of how long ago it was.

The timing is so very suspect. He has been in the crosshairs of the 'other side' for many years with his Ten Commandments in the courtroom. One would think if these allegations were true, some of them would have come out then. It would have taken only a whisper to the media to get it going.

We can't assume they may be honest because they are Republicans. Some of the people in Washington most intent on destroying the idea of America are Republicans today.

It is frightening to think we have lost the idea of presumed innocence. It is dangerous for individual liberty - it is doubly dangerous for a government and a country to be influenced by nothing more than rumors and possible lies.

Any American male can be targeted and brought down by the elites using this kind of smear tactic once the stakes are high enough in the campaign.

To me, this seems to be about Senator Mitch McConnell waging war against Steve Bannon for the war that Breitbart and Bannon are waging against him and other Republicans opposed to the "America First" agenda of President Trump. We will see if President Trump will go along with Senator McConnell and withdraw support of Moore to put in Luther Strange or someone else as a write-in candidate.

No wonder VP Mike Pence will not have dinner with any female without his wife present. People thought he was weird, I don't think so.

Their are some bad perverts out there...but Mike...CYA.

Hope this turns out to be another false accusation and the Dems have egg on their face! Especially McConnell, he needs to hit the road.

First off, I am not a fan of Judge Moore. However, when these allegations came out, I saw it as a political hit. Even yesterday, watching the latest accuser sobbing, flanked by media whore Gloria Allred, about something that allegedly happened decades ago, I just don't buy it. As nntrixie noted, Moore has been in controversial campaigns many times in the past. So such allegations should have come out long ago. Then there is the allegation that he kissed the fourteen year old on the lips. I never thought of that as rape. But that's the seriousness with which the media is portraying it.

Then I heard Judge Moore's statements on the Hannity Show. When asked if he would have done such things back then, he answered "not generally". If you were asked if you would have raped a girl back then, and you answered "not generally", that would kind of be an admission that you had. As an experienced attorney and an experienced judge, I couldn't believe that he couldn't bring himself to make a definitive statement. I can only think that he has a conscience that prevented him from outright lying.

As for the accusers, in many wedding ceremonies, there is the statement "speak now or forever hold your peace". If they waited until the statute of limitation expired, they should forever hold their peace.

But there is also Judge Moore's past. Several years ago the Judge defied the laws, and court orders. Many may side with him placing his religious beliefs above the law. But most would criticize the same desire by Muslims to hold Sharia Law above our countries laws.

When I combine he defiance of law and authority, I can easily see him feeling he was above the law when the alleged abuses took place. It seems to be a disease of royalty, where those in government think themselves above the law that applies to commoners.

I've thought of posting an opinion on what has gone wrong with this country to bring us to this point. Unfortunately, I know no way to go back, to undo the damage.

Where I Think America Went Wrong!

"America faces huge challenges that are vastly more important than contested sexual allegations from four decades ago," Brooks told AL.com in a text message.
"Who will vote in America's best interests on Supreme Court justices, deficit and debt, economic growth, border security, national defense, and the like?
I don't think this is what the Founders intended. The failure, in my opinion, is "political parties"! There is no mention of political parties in The Constitution! There is no mention of a division in Congress of a "left side of the isle" or a "right side of the isle".

The Constitution provided for representatives of the people. One Congressperson for a limited number of citizens. That representative was to represent all of their constituents, regardless of their political leanings.

Likewise, each state was allowed two Senators who were to represent all of the people of their state regardless of their political leaning.

And of course, the President, who is the only person elected by all of the citizens of the United States.

Parties were a convenient way to assess the groupings of candidates into categories. However, we know virtually no two humans agree on everything. Somehow over the years, we started electing parties rather that representatives. Isn't that how the British government works? People elect a party, the party elects a Prime Minister, and the country is primarily run by that party. Our country was supposed to be different, with the government being a compromise among all the various political views.

The solution would be to treat the parties as lobbyists. Any candidate, once elected would have to sever ties with any political parties. Representatives should be barred from block voting. Each should act as a individual.

Unfortunately, getting there would be impossible. Parties are currently in control. And neither is about to give up their power. It is a Mexican Standoff. I would not like either party to be solely in power if the other took that first step to give up power. So I fear we are stuck in this death spiral from what was supposed to be democracy.

In this case, the article by Rebecca Savransky, suggests that it is better for the country to have a criminal in office, than for the opposition party to gain the upper hand. We should never have been brought to this choice.

Yep, that's where we are. Luther Strange was a perfectly fine incumbent attacked by Bannon for no valid reason whatsoever, helped Moore rise as an anti-establishment authoritarian, who turns out to be a creepy guy that likes the young girls, and here we are in a real pickle, but the choice is clear, creepy guy with an R by his name who won't be that much of an R, but if he keeps his word, he'll oppose DACA amnesty, at least W thinks so, or another DemoQuack who won't support any of the Trump Agenda.

There really is no choice but to elect the creepy guy with an R by his name.
