Thread: Sen. Tim Scott Reads Hate Mail on Senate Floor

Sen. Tim Scott (R., S.C.), the only African American Republican senator, read the hate mail he has received in a Senate floor speech supporting President Trump's attorney general nominee Jeff Session on Wednesday.

Scott mentioned that his friends and his staff were not used to the level of animosity that comes from what he calls the "liberal left." He said the letters and tweets he received imply that because he is not helpful to the liberal cause, he is therefore not helpful to black America.

Scott read tweets where he was called an "Uncle Tom," and a "disgrace" to his race.

He hailed his chief of staff as being one of two African American chief of staffs out of the 100 in the Senate is the chief of staff of a Republican. The second African American chief of staff also belongs to Scott's office.

Scott's chief of staff also received harsh messages, implying "she's not black enough."

"‘You're for Session. How does a black man turn on his own?'" Scott read from one of the many letters he received.

Scott said he left out all of the mean tweets and hate mail that had "n-word" in it because he felt that it would not be appropriate.

"You see what I am surprised by, just a smidgen, is that the liberal left that speaks and desires for all of us to be tolerant, do not want to be tolerant of anyone that disagrees with where they are coming from," Scott said.

I heard Tim Scott read some of the comments he has received. They are not nice. Being a black Republican makes him the target of constant hate and ridicule. Supporting Senator Sessions adds more hate.

I saw that too GeorgiaPeach, it's awful. I really can't believe we have Americans who would write or say such things. I really appreciate Senator Scott reading some of them on the Senate Floor. That took a lot of strength and courage to do that.

The left expects their "groups" to abide and stay within their party. I applaud such people as Sen. Tim Scott who see beyond race and have principles to stick up for what they believe. Same with gays, if you're a Republican and gay they also get hate mail. Know of such a person in my area. Such hypocrisy from the left who claims they are inclusive to all but if you don't belong to their party you're treated like the enemy, scorned and receive hate speech. The left should put away such signs they display accusing the right of hate because from what I've seen during this year there is far more hate from the left than the right.

I think they're in for a big surprise. Have they selected their new DNC Chair yet or are they still working on it?

Oh how the self-proclaimed tolerant have fallen. What a bunch of hypocrites!
