Gov. Andrew Cuomo on NYC attack: 'We go forward stronger than ever'

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said the incident in New York City today that left at least eight people dead after a truck plowed into a bicycle path was the action of a "lone wolf," and that "there's no evidence to suggest a wider plot or wider scheme."

"New York is an international symbol of freedom and democracy," Cuomo said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon from the New York Police Department headquarters. "We are proud of it, that also makes us a target."

The governor added that there will be an increased police presence in New York City out of caution, but there is no evidence of any ongoing threat.

"We go forward together and we go forward stronger than ever, we're not going to let them win, and if we change our lives, we contort ourselves to them, then they win and we lose," Cuomo said.

The governor lauded the actions of the first responders and said his "thoughts and prayers are with those New Yorkers that we lost today."

"It reminds us all how precious life is they left the house this morning, they were enjoying the beautiful West Side of Manhattan," he added. "And they're not going to be returning home."

Cuomo continued that an investigation will continue, and "justice will be done."

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio slammed the incident today as a "cowardly act of terror."

"We know this action was intended to break our spirit," de Blasio added. "Our spirit will never be moved by an act of violence and an act meant ... to intimidate us."

The mayor encouraged New Yorkers to "be vigilant" and speak up if they see something suspicious, and said that additional NYPD officers will be deployed this evening and in the days to come.

"New Yorkers do not give in in the face of these kinds of actions," he added. "We will be undeterred."

Just terrible. I listened to Cuomo and thought how weak and stupid his comments were, nothing but school boy talk. I much preferred the comments of President Trump on his twitter account. NOT IN THE USA!! We've had enough, this has to stop, all hands on deck, all measures needed to stop this must be implemented and implemented now. No more delays, no more universities or sanctuary cities promoting immigration, fighting our President on travel bans, stupid amnesty talk, all of it has to stop.

It doesn't sound like anything underway today could have stopped this since this one was let in under Obama in 2010. However, everything that President Trump has tried to do and wants to do and is doing will stop it in the future. The problem is so many of these people have already been let in by previous administrations and even the courts overruling Trump's travel ban.

We are seething with killers, even our own. Our own we can't do much about except clean up the disaster and punish those responsible if they survived, but we can sure as heck stop importing it and breeding it, and that will end it for future generations.

It's funny to see these liberal politicians doing backflips in justifying their policy views. Can't they find some other issues to galvanize the traditional Democratic base? Guess not. Except in this case it is not funny at all.

Just reported that the terrorist was here on a "diversity visa", the despised Visa Lottery we want to get rid of, which I saw a tweet that says it had expired. Obama let him in on it in 2010. Deporting visa overstays must rise to number one deportation goal in the next few weeks, no exceptions, no exemptions, no excuses, no mercy. They don't require deportation hearings, they're automatic rapid deportations, they're also 45% of all illegal aliens in the United States. Trump has them as a priority but we need more resources and action to get them out.

We need to specifically engage state and local law enforcement in this. This guy was busted on traffic tickets in Missouri and Pennsylvania. Missouri State Troopers had him, let him go on a $200 bond to show up for a hearing, he never showed, was declared guilty, and that was in 2016. Honestly, I think any time a state or local law enforcement agency has any immigrant, legal or illegal in custody, they need to notify ICE immediately. I don't know what ICE would have done, but at least he would have been on their radar. Maybe the Missouri did notify them, but it doesn't sound like it. We'll probably learn more about this as the days go by.

Honestly, I think ISIS move on New York was a big mistake. These New Yorkers aren't going to put up with this crap any more. They put up with the first WTC bombing, then they suffered stoically through 9/11, but this will be the straw that broke the the camel's back. New York is going to get on our team, they're going to scream ENOUGH! They'll be donning bumper stickers and caps and hats and banners and signs that like Texas who said "Don't Mess with Texas", New York is going to say ENOUGH ALREADY!!

Unite New York, unite with US and scream it from your roof-tops NOT IN THE USA!!!

Americans are the only ones who can stop all this madness in the world. We're the only ones who can defeat ISIS. We have to listen to ourselves and do what has to be done. It's like during WWII, the Russians and the Americans were the only ones who knew what to do to wipe out the NAZIS. This is no different. We're the warrior cultures, we don't like it, we don't want have to do it, but when it comes down to getting the job done, it's US and Russia. I mean look at the UK, they're giving free housing to fleeing ISIS fighters from Syria. You can't invent a stupid, this stupid.
