    Congressman Coble Calls AGAIN

I had just settled down last night when my phone rang. My first thought was that some telemarketer was going to interrupt my sleep and thought about not answering the phone. But, I answered it anyway READY to lay into anyone disturbing my sleep with some sales pitch. When a man asked if I was who he was calling, I was SURE it was a telemarketer but I did say I was who I was. He then identified himself as Congressman Coble AGAIN!! I was SHOCKED speechless! He thanked me again for the nice email in which I thanked him for voting AGAINST CAFTA and told him how much the people in his district appreciated his COURAGE. I even asked him about his "summer cold" that he had referred to in the message he left the day after the CAFTA vote. The call lasted MAYBE 2 minutes but I just am SO IMPRESSED that this man would take the time to call--not once but twice--just because a constituent wrote a nice email about a vote.

This really does go to show that our representatives DO HEAR US SOMETIMES. There is HOPE. And, this makes me even more determined to continue the battle. If there is ONE representative out there who really CARES about his constituency, surely there are more.

Now, we need to start working on Congressman Coble about the illegal immigration issue.

I lived in Greensboro for six years and I have always had great admiration for Congressman Coble. He is possibly the most consistent, sincere U.S. Representative the state of North Carolina ever had, and one of the very best in the history of the Congress.

My Rep. (McHenry) has his office call me, but I have never received a personal call from him. This is very impressive.

Congratulations on living in Congressman Coble's District. You are very fortunate.

Believe me--I KNOW how fortunate I am. He is the ONLY one that I can think of in Washington who I can say is truly honest and who really CARES for the people he represents. He is a rare breed, indeed.

I know you miss living in his district. I got lucky because, a few years back, they redistricted my area and a LOT of the people in my district got Mel Watt but, luckily, I kept Coble. I think, if I hadn't, I would have just had to move!!!

Howard Coble is a man about the only one in Washington that I can respect and support. And when he makes a mistake hes willing to answer for it.
A number of years back I was a member of a vol fire dept, Howard voted for a bill that basically stop us from burning up old houses for training.
Needless to say we were upset.

You'll never believe who showed up at a Tue night training meeting to explain why he voted the way he did.
Yep Howard Coble came to our fire station, no press, no advance men, no circus. Just Howard and a driver. Boy did we unload on him, he sat there and listen to what we had to say and then explained what happen.
Seems he didn't read the bill all the way though. Seems someone had a brother in-law that was in the asbestos removal business and they weren't doing so good so they slipped in a admendment that would help there brother in-law. Bad thing was it would require the fire dept to pay for the testing and remocal of any abestos in any building we burned. That would have cost thousands of dollars that many departments simply couldn't afford. Howard promised that he would push thur a admendment to help the fire depts and being the man of his word thats exactly what he did.

If anything he is honest! He made a mistake, he admitted it, he faced us that were mad about it, and he fixed the problem.

Any elected offical that will admit to being wrong and fix what they did is worthy of all our votes and support!

That sounds so typical, ArthurC. There have been MANY times that I have written him about issues that we disagreed on but he ALWAYS took the time to write back and explain WHY he voted the way he did. We might still not have agreed but it takes a real man to defend what he believes is right and to TRY to explain his votes to his constituency. If we lose him, we will be losing one of North Carolina's best assets.

I was so STUNNED when he called that I forgot all about asking him if he was planning to run again next year!!! I was just BOWLED OVER!
