Harry Reid Tied to Corruption Investigation

Indictments released this week against two former Utah state attorneys general suggest that they sought to enlist the help of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) to ward off a federal investigation.

State prosecutors on Tuesday released indictments against former Utah AGs John Swallow and Mark Shurtleff. They are charged with a number of felonies, including bribery and tampering with evidence.

The charges were expected, the Washington Times reported Wednesday, but mentions of Reid and Sen. Orrin Hatch (R., Utah) in relation to efforts to get the Federal Trade Commission to drop an investigation against two Utah businessmen are raising additional questions.

According to the court document, Mr. Swallow told Mr. Johnson “the price to obtain access to [Utah businessman Richard] Rawle’s contact person likely ‘won’t be cheap.’” Days later, in an Oct. 7, 2010, email message with the subject line of “Senator Reid,” [another Utah businessman, Jeremy] Johnson wrote to Mr. Rawle asking about the connection.

“I talked with John Swallow, and he said you might have some connections to Reid that might be helpful to us,” Mr. Johnson wrote in the email to Mr. Rawle, citing his problems with the FTC.

The court records show Mr. Johnson subsequently wired money to an account controlled by Mr. Rawle totaling $250,000, and that Mr. Rawle subsequently sent payments of $8,500 and $15,000 to Mr. Swallow from that same account.

Reid spokesman Adam Jentleson denied any impropriety on Reid’s part. Jentleson previously admitted that Johnson attended a 2010 fundraiser for Reid.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is a shady operator. From changing the Senate rules which allowed him to increase the tax-raising power of the Senate Democratic majority, ties to shady lobbyists, and numerous scandals in Nevada, it is little wonder how a guy on a relatively modest public servant salary has become obscenely wealthy.

Now, Reid has been linked to a new massive bribery case that had two state attorneys general arrested already.

Utah prosecutors on Tuesday filed criminal charges against two former state attorneys general in a court filing that makes tantalizing references to a possible pay-to-play influence scheme involving U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Utah County District Attorney Sim Gill charged former Attorneys General John Swallow and Mark Shurtleff with numerous felony state crimes, including bribery, acceptance of illegal gifts, evidence tampering and a “pattern of unlawful activity.”

The charges were expected for months, and both men were taken into custody. Mr. Shurtleff served for many years as Utah’s top law enforcement official before retiring in 2013 and was succeeded by Mr. Swallow, who resigned in controversy after just a year. Both are Republicans.

“This is a sad day for Utah,” said Gov. Gary R. Herbert, who said that no matter what happens with the two men in court, it has become “a black eye for our state.”

Both Mr. Shurtleff and Mr. Swallow maintained their innocence, according to The Associated Press and other local news accounts.

While the charges are major news in Utah, it was the mention of two senators — Mr. Reid, Nevada Democrat, and Sen. Orrin G. Hatch, Utah Republican — that could reach Washington’s corridors of power.

The documents detail efforts by a federally indicted Utah businessman, Jeremy Johnson, to secure meetings with Mr. Reid and Mr. Hatch, where Mr. Johnson hoped to enlist their help in fighting off an investigation by the Federal Trade Commission.

It is difficult to be surprised by this. There is no reason why this man should have such a prominent role in American government. He represents everything wrong with our government, and there is no way the Founding Fathers would be pleased with what a miserable Majority Leader he is.
Now, we will see if Utah law enforcement will withstand the serious political muscle about to be thrown at them.

This is war, and Harry Reid won’t be taken down without a fight.

Senate Majority Harry Reid (D., Nev.) knows a thing or two about making money. He has amassed a sizable fortune since getting elected to Congress in the 1980s, although it’s hard to say how he’s gotten so rich over the years.

Reid refuses to release his tax returns—but we do know that he has been on the winning end of a number of suspicious land deals in his home state.
Last month, Reid sold his home in Searchlight, Nevada to a gold-mining company for $1.75 million. Not bad. Maybe that explains this blinging watch and ring combo:

It’s not immediately clear whether Reid used campaign funds to purchase the watch from his granddaughter, who is a jewelry vendor in Berkeley, California. He has gotten himself in trouble for doing that sort of thing in the past.

While Reid may dream of one day being as rich as the Koch brothers, for now he seems to be doing just fine as a mere millionaire.

The only Americans that Reid ever cared about were the ones that frequent Vegas, to keep his contributors in business and any American owners of Casinos. Jobs in Vegas all go the aliens. Got an e-mail response from him when we were fighting W's proposed amnesty, I thought I had read "Sender" wrong, the e-mail read as if W himself had wrote it.

The only Americans that Reid ever cared about were the ones that frequent Vegas, to keep his contributors in business and any American owners of Casinos. Jobs in Vegas all go the aliens. Nevada education system ranked last in nation, report says

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s state ranks last in the nation in education for the third year in a row, according to a children's well-being report released by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

According to the report, about 40 percent of Nevada’s high school seniors didn’t graduate on time in 2012. The percentage is the highest failure rate in the country and double the national average.

Nevada also had the lowest preschool participation rate in the U.S., with 30 percent of children receiving schooling before kindergarten compared with a 46 percent national average.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Nevada's children beat only New Mexico and Mississippi in an overall well-being category, which includes children's health, education and state of families.

“Nevada continues to gain ground, but we remain in 50th place. That’s unacceptable,” Nevada Superintendent of Public Instruction Dale Erquiaga told the Review-Journal.

Erquiaga told the Review-Journal that Nevada's 17 school districts should spend more time ensuring high school students earn credits and pass state-required exit exams.

“Districts have to continue rethinking their efforts before students fall so far behind they can’t catch up in time," he said.
