Harvard professor says GOP electors are close to blocking Trump win

Harvard University law professor Larry Lessig said Tuesday that 20 Republican Electoral College voters are considering flipping to vote against Donald Trump, more than half the number of anti-Trump votes needed to stall the president-elect from being sworn into office.

"Obviously, whether an elector ultimately votes his or her conscience will depend in part upon whether there are enough doing the same. We now believe there are more than half the number needed to change the result seriously considering making that vote," Lessig told Politico.

Lessig has been offering free legal counsel to "faithless electors" who are considering casting a ballot for an alternative candidate as opposed to Trump, who earned 306 votes on Election Day, well above the necessary 270.

According to Politico's report, 20 Republican electors have contacted Lessig's group about voting against Trump.

Electors will cast their ballots on Dec. 19.

If anti-Trump electors manage to whip up enough votes against him, the decision would then go to the GOP-controlled House.

Never in my life would I have thought such a thing was possible against the best most decent greatest man who won fair and square against all odds, to betray him as a candidate and all the people who worked so hard to elect him? Traitors, that's what the 20 are if they go through with such a dastardly act against the voters of their states!!

Democrats are evil. How anyone could stay registered with that party now if beyond me. They are disgusting.

Americans, do not send your children to Harvard. It is not the esteemed institution it once was. It's become a bad place with bad teachers and bad ideas.

40 Electoral College members demand briefing on Russian interference

Forty members of the Electoral College on Tuesday signed a letter demanding an intelligence briefing on Russian interference in the election ahead of their Dec. 19 vote.

Ten electors originally signed the letter when it was published Monday, and 30 more have since added their names.

The open letter — led by Christine Pelosi, the daughter of House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) — urged Director of National Intelligence James Clapper to give a detailed briefing on President-elect Donald Trump's ties to Russia.

“We further require a briefing on all investigative findings, as these matters directly impact the core factors in our deliberations of whether Mr. Trump is fit to serve as President of the United States,” the letter read.

The Clinton campaign applauded the effort Monday, saying it had repeatedly warned about Russian interference aimed at swaying the election in Trump’s favor.

“Despite our protestations, this matter did not receive the attention it deserved by the media in the campaign,” Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta said in a statement. “We now know that the CIA has determined Russia's interference in our elections was for the purpose of electing Donald Trump. This should distress every American.”

The signees of the letter are all Democratic electors, aside from one Republican: Chris Suprun from Texas.

Suprun has already pledged not to vote for Trump, and claimed last week that other Republican electors plan to pick an alternative, too.

Bipartisan efforts in Congress are underway to investigate the CIA’s conclusion that Russian interference swayed the election in Trump’s favor.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Monday said the Senate Intelligence Committee should investigate the findings.

“We’re going to follow the regular order,” he said. “It’s an important subject and we intend to review it on a bipartisan basis.”

So what is this really all about? I think some in the CIA know that Trump's going to be asking where all that money went to train the "rebels". $500 million to train 3 rebels and all the money and equipment ended up with ISIS.
