It’s easy enough to blame the illegals for being here. Yes, they broke laws to come here, their presence here is breaking a law every day. They continue to break laws while here, often stealing American’s identification so they can work and buy things.

But these people would not be coming here if Americans did not employ them. The reason these employees are so attractive to so many employers, big and small, is because they are cheaper--not cheaper in pay, they make the same wage as any American would. The difference is this: the employer need not pay their contribution to FICA or various other local and federal taxes, and for workers comp and unemployment insurance and more importantly, for the bookkeeping and accounting that goes with all this on a legal American employee.

So what do we do? Run around shrieking about cattle cars and concentration camps? Yeah, that makes sense. We want to turn into Nazis to fix this problem.

Maybe we could do what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. enjoined black Americans to do in the South in the 1950s and 1960s. The boycotts of bus lines and department stores that depended upon these “second class citizensâ€

I agree on the employer boycott method.

But let's remember that individual illegals are just as guilty. It is perfectly justified to direct your anger at individual illegals. They knowingly smuggled themselves into the country and broke our laws.

Good grief, I hardly shop now. Only buying American products from American companies that don't hire illegals is getting harder and harder to do. It's also way more expensive. But I do it. It's worth it to me. I need to do some research on more places. Like, where can you go eat now? Chinese, Mexican, all are no no's. I know where to shop. I check everything. Never do I go to Walmart or Sam's. Now Sears is out. I did buy a new lawn mower. American made and expensive, but I proudly ride it around and it does a great job!

It's kind of tough when I just heard on the news last night that we get 80% of our goods from China. Most stores we shop in, buy from that country. So to sell cheap, the stores buy cheap, and hire cheap, thus the hiring of illegal aliens. At least I stopped buying my meds at Walmart. Groceries we already buy at another grocery store who doesn't hire illegals. Other things, I've been trying to find elsewhere.

Do we get to eat out anymore? I know A&W uses American beef. But I don't know about their other stuff. And shoot, we don't even have one here!
We go to Piggly Wiggly. They have American beef, and a butcher right there. You can talk to him and make sure you like him before you buy it! We are going to be building a home. Got an American builder and everyone will be American, but who makes American appliances? Geez! It's hard to find info on them. I asked someone at Lowe's and she didn't know. I told her it's her job to know!
Yes, Walmart is probably cheaper, but after you stop going you don't notice the price difference. You just get used to paying more and it feels good to know it's not from China. I won't have anything that is from China.

A boycott of this type just might work.A secondary benefit would be to slow down the purchase of Chinese toys and other goods,which have been in the news so much lately.

Hmm...I seem not to have made myself clear...I am not calling for a boycott of non-American made goods.

I'm not even sure how you can possibly do that.

I am calling for a boycott of the stores that hire illegals (virtually all major, national dept. and discount stores) this Christmas season. You can buy your new Japanese VCR from a store that doesn't hire or cater to illegals...that means, not Wal-Mart, not Sears, not Best Buy...probably a small, independed dealer, maybe online?

The point is to send a message to these large employers of many illegals: we can damage you at your bottom line; your only customers are not illegals...legal residents and native-born Americans buy your products, too, and right now, we still outnumber the illegals.

I am with you Token,and I understood what you meant in your original post.
It might take a little time and effort now but I'm sure if we all just took a little time on the internet and researched we could come up with tons of places that don't cater to or employ illegals.
Here in my state we have all kinds of things that say "Buy Virginia" for local products, I'm sure every state does and it wouldn't be that hard to call and ask their policies on illegals.Maybe give gifts like a gift card for a local service ,help out an American worker by shopping at their store.Look around your area I'm sure there are a few stores owned and run by Americans that don't employ or cater to illegals.Go to craft shows during the holiday season and buy from them,they're mostly local women trying to supplement their income.

I just have a total boycott attitude I guess.
It's not just the illegals that are hurting us, it's also China.
I love the idea of giving gift certificates. You could do an oil change for someone. There are a lot of ways to avoid the stores that hire illegals. You can make jelly to give to your family and friends. We do that. There are so many ways to avoid the big "Christmas" money machines.
I didn't mean to offend you. I just try to support American made and that's all.
