House Republican “leaders” including Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy and Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, are pinning their hopes for an immigration “reform” bill on informal negotiations with Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez (IL-4), a hardcore leftist who has been at the forefront of the push for amnesty for illegal aliens.
How dumb can these guys be?
This is the same Luis Gutierrez who back in 2009 introduced the “Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act” to grant amnesty to illegal aliens and who once wrote an op-ed in the liberal Huffington Post to complain that Obama’s immigration enforcement policies were too strict.
Gutierrez said back then, “This week, we saw how destructive things are getting. The combination of a harsh piece of anti-immigrant legislation advancing in the Arizona legislature and a massive, well-publicized federal enforcement action against a broad human smuggling network has sent the unmistakable message to Arizona's one million immigrants and two million Hispanics: there is a target on your backs and authorities are coming after you.”
That’s right, House Republican “leaders” are negotiating with the same guy who defends the notorious “coyotes” or human smugglers that have led to the deaths of so many would be immigrants and who opposes the enforcement of the immigration laws we already have on the books.
This is the same Luis Gutierrez who said in a major speech at the 2012 Democratic National Convention “Democrats value all immigrants… Republicans blame immigrants for our problems. Democrats thank them for their work.”
The establishment Republican “leaders” of House have apparently forgotten Gutierrez’s speech at the Democratic National Convention where he spoke for “rights for undocumented immigrants” and that he said that the Democratic Party was on the immigrants’ side, unlike Mitt Romney and the Republican Party.
“The obstruction of the Republican Party and Mitt Romney is not new,” said Gutierrez in his nationally televised speech. “Every time we’ve expanded civil rights in America, someone tried to stop us.”
As Dave Gibson, a freelance reporter and writer who specializes in reporting on immigration issues and who regularly documents the threat illegal aliens pose to our national security and quality of life said, we would not have a “broken system,” if the laws which already exist were simply enforced.
Those of us who have been around Washington long enough to remember the smirk on Democratic Sen. George Mitchell's face when he left the "negotiation" with Republicans that saw President George H.W. Bush go back on his "read my lips, no new taxes" pledge are waiting for the video of Rep. Luis Gutierrez with that same smirk as he leaves the meeting where House Republican "leaders" cave on amnesty.
