I fooled America with fake news stories and got Trump elected

A Facebook fake-news writer who “hates” Donald Trump is taking credit for sending the billionaire to the White House.

Paul Horner has spread a viral slew of stupefying news hoaxes over the years, including one doozy about how a 3 million-strong contingent of Amish folks in Ohio helped propel Trump to the White House.

His tall tales spread like wildfire, and caught the attention of The Donald’s team, including son Eric and his then-campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, who posted links to his reports as if they were legit.

“I think Trump is in the White House because of me. His followers don’t fact-check anything — they’ll post everything, believe anything,” Horner, 38, told the Washington Post. “His campaign manager posted my story about a protester getting paid $3,500 as fact. Like, I made that up. I posted a fake ad on Craigslist.”

He chalked up his popularity — and believably — to P.T. Barnum’s phrase: There’s a sucker born every minute.

“Honestly, people are definitely dumber. They just keep passing stuff around. Nobody fact-checks anything anymore — I mean, that’s how Trump got elected,” he told the paper.

“He just said whatever he wanted, and people believed everything, and when the things he said turned out not to be true, people didn’t care because they’d already accepted it. It’s real scary. I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said.

His Trump stories had the polar opposite effect of what he intended, he said.

“I thought I was messing with the campaign, maybe I wasn’t messing them up as much as I wanted — but I never thought he’d actually get elected,” he said.

“I didn’t even think about it. In hindsight, everyone should’ve seen this coming — everyone assumed Hillary [Clinton] would just get in. But she didn’t, and Trump is president.”

Horner has previously “reported” that President Obama signed an executive order banning the national anthem from being sung during sporting events nationwide.

And he told a Phoenix TV station that he cashed in on the legalization of gay marriage by buying a van, adorning it with a rainbow, going online to become an ordained minister and then hitting the road in the Paul Horner Gay Marriage Mobile.

Google and Facebook this week announced measures aimed at stopping the proliferation of fake news by targeting how those who disseminate it rake in advertising dollars.

Well, in this country we tend to believe each other. Not sure where all these liars and frauds came from who want to post fake news. It's weird, unheard of really. WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE AND WHERE DID YO COME FROM?? You all need to locked up, because you're a menace to society.

But no, Paul Horner, you did not get Trump elected. Serious people who love our country and loved Trump's policies to fix our country got him elected. And truth be told if Trump had done as many rallies in California, New York and Illinois as he did in Florida, he would have won the popular vote by 10 million votes.
