On Monday, Alfonso Diaz-Diaz, 26, was arraigned in Woodford District Court for the death of 5-year-old Blake Cohorn, of Lexington.

The little boy's father, Rocky, was also seriously injured in the alcohol-fueled crash, and is still listed in critical condition at the University of Ketnucky (UK) Chandler Hospital.

Other family members were also injured.

LEX 18 reported:

Police say they got a call about a black car heading the wrong way around 10 p.m. on April 21. Just a few minutes later, the report of a head-on collision at US 60 and Midway Road came in.

Blake Cohorn was declared dead at the scene.

Officials say two people in the black car were taken to UK Hospital.

Six people were in the other vehicle - three adults and three children. The driver was airlifted to UK Hospital with injuries police described as life-threatening. EMS took a passenger in the front seat to UK Hospital. EMS took an adult and two children in the back seat to a Frankfort hospital.

Officials say Cohorn was sitting in a booster seat between the two adults in the front seat. He was a student at Harrison Elementary School in Lexington.

Kentucky.com reported:

Donald Estep (Blake's grandfather), said Blake liked "helicopters, Mickey Mouse, SpongeBob, and playing with his cars."

"The Lord took my world away," Donald Estep said in a telephone interview Monday as he recalled his relationship with Blake. "He was Papaw's boy."

Diaz-Diaz has been charged with one count of second-degree manslaughter, five counts of first-degree assault, one count of first-degree wanton endangerment, one count of driving under the influence of alcohol with aggravating circumstances, and one count of driving without a license.

Diaz-Diaz is currently being held in the Woodford County Detention Center on an immigration detainer.

His nest court appearance is set for May 6.

The Mexican national has entered a plea of not guilty on all charges.
