Thread: Illegal Immigrant Yells ‘Viva Bernie!’ As Sanders Marches On

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has vowed to keep fighting until the July Democratic convention, telling the Clinton campaign Tuesday night “it’s not over.”

“The Clinton campaign thinks this campaign is over. They’re wrong. Maybe it’s over for the insiders and the party establishment, but the voters in Indiana had a different idea,” Sanders said in a statement following his win in the Hoosier State.

Currently, Hillary Clinton leads Sanders among pledged delegates 1,682 to 1,361. When superdelegates are counted, her lead extends to 2,202 to 1,400. A candidate needs 2,383 delegates total to win. Delegates are awarded proportionally in the Democratic race, so Sanders catching up and passing Clinton with pledged delegates is nearly impossible.

The Vermont senator’s campaign is now continuing to make the argument that superdelegates will end up switching to support him as he polls better against Donald Trump in a general election matchup.

“We are in this campaign to win and we’re going to fight until the last vote is cast. There is nothing I would like more than to take on and defeat Donald Trump, someone who must never become president of this country,” Sanders said in a statement.

The Clinton campaign, though, has effectively pivoted to the general election. The statement they released following Sanders’ victory in Indiana didn’t even mention Bernie once. It focused on Trump. “While Donald Trump seeks to bully and divide Americans, Hillary Clinton will unite us to create an economy that works for everyone,” the statement said.

The Clinton campaign has pushed back strongly on Sanders when he has attacked Hillary’s record.

“There is nothing that I have said about Secretary Clinton that the Republicans are not more than aware of. They must have dozens and dozens of opposition researchers,” Sanders said to The Associated Press. He added, “they will go into areas that I have chosen not to go into. They will be talking about emails. They will be talking about the Clinton Foundation.”

At a Kentucky rally Tuesday night following his Indiana victory, Sanders invited an illegal alien onto the stage with him who yelled out, “Viva Bernie!”
