Why am I teaching so many illegals' kids?

Actually I should say "trying" to teach their kids! I am in the state of Kansas and my classroom is loaded with kids who are proudly getting hooked up with the Sur 13 gang.

These kids are making my teaching life a living HELL. They don't want to learn and they do nothing but cause problems for all their teachers.

What can be done? I just found this site tonight and immediately joined so I could feel like there MIGHT be answers to the frustration being felt by thousands of American teachers.

    Welcome Teacher

If you have an immigrant student population then you also have an opportunity to encourage their family members to maintain their farms and have greater food self sufficiency in their former home countries. It might be possible to have a dispay of photographs of their family farms overseas.

This might seem to be a tangent but the more they can build a financial foundation overseas the more likely they will stay there.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Are you not able to discuss this with school administrator's? The school board. Do other teachers in your area feel the same way?
Maybe you can all get together and demand something be done.

    Teacher, welcome aboard!

You'll find good company regarding your concerns here.

Please stick around, and, with any luck, someone will offer a plausible suggestion on how to deal with the situation...

Teacher if it were me, I would start keeping a journal or a log of all the goings on in my classroom as well as other problems that are being swept under the rug within the school. Maybe if you collect enough evidence and can get other teachers to back you, you can go the the media, your local government and write your congressman and senators to demand change. Just my 2 cents.

    my location

Betsy, I'm in Topeka. Big gang problem with the kids from Mexico. They don't want to be called "Hispanic"...they are proud of being Mexican.

Thanks, everyone, for your warm welcomes and suggestions. I'm so glad I found such a great place!
