COACHELLA: Another Alta California city votes
    to become an "Immigrant Sanctuary"

    by

Los Angeles, Alta California - March 24, 2006 - (ACN) Yet another city council in Alta California has voted to become an "Immigrant Sanctuary". Coachella, a city 125 miles east of Los Angeles and with 30,957 residents, passed a resolution that states "the city will provide a safe, healthy and dignified place to live for its immigrant communities, regardless of immigration status."

Coachella Mayor Jesse Villarreal said that the undocumented immigrants living in the city can rest easy knowing that the local police won’t act as border patrol and turn them in. The resolution will also protect US citizens of Mexican descent from being harassed by the police who could mistake them of being undocumented. . The city populations is 97% Latino.

The "Immigrant Sanctuary Movement" is rapidly expanding in Alta California with the cities of Maywood, Los Angeles, Huntington Park, Pomona and San Francisco having already passed similar measures. The city council resolutions are attempts to prevent local police from arresting the undocumented if the anti-immigrant legislation presently before the US Senate passes.

The Border Protection, Antiterrorism and Illegal Immigration Control Act, before the U.S. Senate, authorizes local authorities to enforce federal immigration law, proposes building a $2 million fence along the border and criminalizes those who help the undocumented. It would also authorize police agencies to arrest undocumented immigrants.

The Coachella resolution passed by its city council is credited to the efforts of the Comite Latino that attended the Mexicano/Latino Leadership Immigration Summit in Riverside. At that summit meeting the Vice Mayor of the City of Maywood, Felipe Aguirre, gave a presentation on how his city became an "Immigrant Sanctuary". His presentation was very inspirational and it gave birth to the immigrant sanctuary movement. The federal government has threaten to stop the funding for certain city programs but Vice Mayor Aguirre simply told the feds, "Keep your money!"

The "Immigrant Sanctuary Movement" within the various cities will most probably join up with efforts by the Catholic Church. Los Angeles Cardinal Rogelio Mahony has gone on record saying that if the "Sensenbrenner Legislation" passes, he will instructs his priests to disobey certain measures of the proposed law that makes it a criminal act to help undocumented people in need. We may be witnessing the beginning of massive civil disobedience by huge numbers of people, organizations and institutions.

The City of Coachella has a long history revolving around agriculture. Cesar Chavez once marched through the city in his struggle for farm worker rights and today the area's agricultural industry still relies mostly on Mexican and Mexican-American workers.

Looks like ICE now has a few new places to set up offices. If the towns won't do anything to help, then ICE must take necessary action to ensure our laws are obeyed!

I honestly believe the federal government needs to crack down on these so-called sanctuary cities to halt the spread. If other cities and towns see ICE cracking down on designated sanctuary cities, those thinking of joining the club won't be so eager. What say you ICE, can we depend on you to provide a little enforcement? Is it too much to ask?

    MW,

I was just thinking the same thing. We will have some wise cities that will pass ordinances, which will prevent settlement of illegal aliens, while some foolish cities will welcome them. Wonder what the latter has planed, when they are overrun by illegal aliens from cities that have rejected them. That's going to be funny watching them scream for help from the state and federal governments, after the numbers reach unbearable proportions.

What Hector Carreon fails to tell you is that Cesar Chavez marched through Coachella on his way to the border PROTESTING ILLEGAL ALIENS. Cesar Chavez used to call the INS on illegals because he KNEW they would hurt his workers by driving down wages and/or breaking a strike.

I wonder why he didn't mention that...

    EXCUSE ME...WHAT'S WRONG HERE???

Cities, towns and states have constitutional rights to make laws especially for the protection safety and welfare of it's citizens..We are having to fight to do it ourselves ...because of the failure of government to do their common-sense, duty and responsibility of enforcement...where the hell does again another infraction of the law of " sanctuary" of illegal aliens and their supporters. Go un-enforced. . Unlawful are
The illegal aliens, harboring, aiding and abetting, sanctuary and the churches need to loose their tax-exemption status for interfering and trying to obstruct, impede and interfere with the laws of the country and constitution. The "Immigrant Sanctuary Movement" within the various cities will most probably join up with efforts by the Catholic Church Los Angeles Cardinal Rogelio Mahony has gone on record saying he will instructs his priests to disobey certain measures of the proposed law...if the Catholic churches get involved ...I for one will walk away from the church ...because this disobedience is against our faith, upbringing, and un-American..
This has nothing to do with
IMMIGRATION, IMMIGRATION LAWS, IMMIGRANTS, MINORITIES OR CIVIL RIGHTS...THIS PLATFORM IS BEING USED BY ILLEGAL ALIENS /OPEN BORDERS SUPPORTERS TO GAIN SYMPATHY, GARNER SUPPORT AND RIGHTS THAT DON’T BELONG TO THEM while they violate our Rights, Country, Economic System and US citizens...They attack any Americans who disagrees with their felonious activities, speak against their platform, or try to enforce laws.
Not one of our Government Houses as yet... has spoken up in defense of the American People and the horrific crimes being perpetrated against Americans. But then...they don’t know how to enforce laws on the books either...but they keep writing the same laws over again to fit the situation and we should think those laws will be enforced>>>
If the Vatican and the Whitehouse don’t think a border fences is necessary on our borders to protect American...they should take down the fences around the Vatican and Whitehouse (the people’s houses) and let anyone walk in including the Illegals
    Americans...
It's Pass The Time We Need To Start Suing Our States And Federal Government For Failure To Enforce Law And Order, Failure to Protect the Safety And Welfare Of Citizens, Failure of compliance of Duties and Oath, Failure to Rule and Preside over the Rights and Will of “We the People” (our government. our laws and our Constitution)
Miss-Using And Fraudulently Using Tax-Payer's Money, Deceit and Deception in Government, Aiding and Abetting an Invasion, By-passing Legislation to Protect the Sovereignty of the U.S. and citizens, and Conspiring with a Foreign Government

Our Statue of Liberty, doesn't have a sign on her forehead that reads" America can be Used, Abused, Hated, Invade and Occupied" nor does it say "Property of Mexico"

Since our town passed an anti-illegal ordinance last month, the local Catholic leadership has been going nuts, writing letters to the editor, etc. The latest was a big spread in the diocese newspaper about how our "dying" town basically shot itself in the foot by putting out the message that we are not "welcoming of newcomers." They still cannot make the distinction between LEGAL and ILLEGAL. And then there was the usual mention of the "great family values, rich culture, and work ethic."

The bishop stated in this column that we will be sorry in the future that we made this decision because businesses who might consider locating here will be looking to locate to an area which welcomes a willing workforce.

This is a depressed area where a lot of people are either unemployed, or underemployed. I hardly think we need to import uneducated, illiterate illegals to make up an available workforce. I cannot understand that logic and it infuriated me.

I don't blame you...there is a difference between illegal and legal...as WE KNOW....
someone needs to turn in the Bishop's church in your town to IRS....for infractions on their non-for profit license...you could remind him it's not his job to initiate and interfere with the making and carring out laws.. the underemployed or unemployed have a right to state re-education programs to up-date or up-grade their skills...some should take advantage...if they get a hard time...make a fuss and find out how illegals are getting employment education and help..
.CALL IT NO CITIZEN LEFT BEHIND.....
Companies coming into the area will be glad to have no baggage in the area that they have to donate to clean up....and tell him if he feels sorry...let him and his church take on the responsiblity of housing, welfare, healthcare, schooling etc..
.how many does he want to support...because we are sick of it...
also ask him how much of his churche's funds has he donated???
Ask him why he's not helping your unemployed and underemployed and writing letters to the governor and state legislation to get help .... if you are fronm NEW JERSEY OR ILLINOIS....THE ILLEGALS ARE GETTING ALL KINDS OF HELP BEHIND A FARCE OF IMMIGRATION HELP AND WITHOUT THE KNOWLEDGE OF MOST CITIZENS....
