Immigration bill threatens American middle class

If you think that the immigration bill pushed by our Washington politicians was based on humanitarian concerns for poor, hard working immigrants, I have another good deal for you; a bridge for sale in Brooklyn.

This cynical legislation is being pushed by a cabal of selfish interests whose real objectives are to serve their financial masters and political agendas.

There are multiple self-serving factions that have joined forces to benefit their own purposes while ignoring the best interests of the great majority of their constituent voters — us.

    Cheap labor

Big business wants cheap, non-union labor. They say that they want to keep prices down, but they are really concerned about showing huge profits in their year-end statements to justify the obscene bonuses and salaries they pay themselves. These corporate potentates have bought and paid for our politicians and now want these lackeys to give them cheap labor and a gradual lowering of blue collar wages, with no pensions, health care or fringe benefits. Republican lawmakers in Washington are paying their debt to their campaign benefactors by providing them with this wave of cheap labor that doesn’t demand such things as fair labor practices or safe, humane working conditions. The poor, hungry and good people who cross our border are willing to accept any conditions to provide for their minimum living standards.

The Democratic Party in Washington believes that when these immigrants eventually get to vote, they will vote primarily Democratic as do most of our present Hispanic citizens. So they are on board with this legislation. Religions have also involved themselves in this feeding frenzy. The Catholic Church, and some other churches, recognize the value of potential new, uncritical, unsophisticated members of their diminishing flocks, much of it brought about by the recent pedophile scandals in the church.

    Dramatic changes

What the American public is facing is a “perfect stormâ€

I don't know about anybody else but this scares me. They had an article today about all the forclosures in this area. At first they were from that "too good to be true" financing......now it's others. This woman wrote that when she first started reading about these forclosures.....she figured it was stupid people just living beyond their means. She admitted she was very cold hearted and figured it would NEVER happen to her!!!! She was employed....her husband was one of those rare IT employees which pretty much had her thinking their future was SECURE. In less than 6 mos. they are out on the street. The husbands "secure" job was given to cheaper workers and her income couldn't sustain them.

I know my husband and I used to joke....but it seems to be a reality.....don't ever plan anything on a "better" life or base your decisions on eggs not in your basket.....coz right now people are scrambling to just exist and on the brink of loosing it all.

There was another article where a 48 yr. old guy.....85,000 a year job....now homeless and writing a thank you letter because 2 elderly women helped him when he went into a diabetic problem while walking to yet another dead end job hopeful.

Both these people said....I always thought it would NEVER happen to me....They were smart, careful, educated.......yet....now they're on the street. Had the world in the palm of their hands....it all looked rosey from there.....then bam.....all gone.....within a couple months. No downward spiral......just the rug pulled out from under them. Not because they did anything wrong to deserve it......outsourcing, job closing......doesn't matter....job gone and no one wanting to pay what people deserve.....just whoever is the cheapest.

I was just talking with a lady here at work, and she remarked that when she was growing up in St. Louis, you had to be some kind of bum to be out of work. So many companies were busy there and someone was always hiring. In my field, IT, we got hit hard after 2000. They kept bringing in around 200K foreign workers every year and letting us go. I was laid off in spring of 2001 and will never forget the prickly fear in my mouth when the leaves started turning gold and I still didn't have a job. At that time we had to deal with a public sentiment that we were just a bunch of spoiled geeks getting our comeupance. But since then it has spread to other professions. Yes, Mr. and Mrs. America, you CAN end up with ruined credit, no place to live, and out on the street, right here in America. And it can happen to you in a heartbeat. My mortgage company commences foreclosure proceedings in three months. Can you 're-career' in that period of time if your job goes away?

Sorry to here that Betsy.....been there.....top of the world one minute and looking up the next. You CAN"T get a new career in that amount of time....once you get that "new" career....they're already bringing in cheaper replacements. I've seen that happen to a number of people.

Thanks for your stories crazybird and BetsyRoss. It's scary and disgusting how these pandering sell-out politicians & greedy corporate interests continually screw the middle class while reaping windfalls themselves.

When I graduated college not that many moons ago, almost no one in my circle even thought about applying for public sector jobs. Primarily everyone wanted to work for large companies and/or went to law or grad school. Now it seems that govt jobs are the only ones that provide a decent amount of security and benefits for those wanting to earn a wage.

And I read a couple of weeks ago that the government has had more then 55,000 illegals on the payroll for years.

Just something to take note of......when the only jobs you can survive on is a government job? Where are we?

Look at Korea...China....everything I ever knew about Communism and Socialist countries......your only means of survival was to be a part of the ranks.

Well, the Catholic Church better get with it. These young illegal alien women are on every shape and form of birth control and are very busy having unprotected sex with many parters. It is not a "chaste" group, by any means. They're going to have a lot of educating to do ...and probably later, as it is probably too late with the current generation. Not too many of them are married, either. Oh well, so much for those Christian values ...

I also believe our liberal friends love the uneducated masses. It keeps them in their jobs -- in the welfare and social service departments across the country. They've now got someone they can "educate" again, keep on welfare, keep coming back in for "services." Business is booming again.
