U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez Pushing For Former FALN Leader Pardon

U.S. Representative Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill) is pushing for a pardon for the former head of the Chicago wing of the FALN. Oscar Lopez Rivera, was convicted for seditious conspiracy, armed robbery and twice scheming to escape prison. Rivera oversaw the takeover of Jimmy Carter's presidential campaign office in 1979, directed the placement of five bombs in and around the city and oversaw the takeover of the national Guard Armory in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. The FALN terrorized Chicago and New York City in the 70s and 80s with planting bombs, murders, kidnapping and car robberies. The bombing of the Fraunces Tavern, in NYC, killed four while injuring another 60.

Throughout, Oscar Lopez Rivera has shown zero remorse for his actions.

Now, Luis Gutierrez and three other Puerto Rican members of Congress have signed a letter to the head of the United States Parole Commission seeking the release of the convicted terrorist. These four members of Congress seem to think that murder and bombing was justified since their statement said that Rivera was "convicted for politically-motivated activities in the early 1980s...who remains in prison" and someone who "would not pose any risk to society."

We are no strangers to Luis Gutierrez' ramblings on illegal immigration and has shown that he cannot comprehend "illegal acts" from legal ones. The blatant disregard for the laws of this land by any elected official is nothing short of despicable. But, to side with an unrepentant murderer shows us exactly how far this country's leadership has degraded. It also becomes more and more apparent that elected leaders enter public service to do their own bidding instead of the peoples.

Politicians have long ignored the voices of the people as they have enriched themselves during their time in office. Luis Gutierrez, too, hasn't been immune to accusations of using insider knowledge to profit from local real estate deals. I find it all hypocritical when traders on Wall Street get convicted of insider trading while we have government officials profiting in the same way.

But that is how it is, isn't it?

Everyone, but the connected, it seems must adhere to the laws of this land. How does our country's leadership expect its' citizens to believe in in our way of life, when they themselves disregard it like yesterdays trash?

What the hell is wrong with our entire political picture?

When it comes to Oscar Lopez Rivera, we should not forget that he turned down a clemency offer, by then President Bill Clinton, after he refused to renounce terrorism as a means for Puerto Rico to to obtain independence. For Luis Gutierrez and his cohorts to say that Rivera would pose no risk to society is short-sighted, at the very least. Although the FALN does not officially exist any longer, it wouldn't take much for a resurrection under one of its former masterminds.

Not only should these four Puerto Rican leaders be remembered the next time they run for re-election, they should also be remembered for making this pardon request so near the anniversary of the January 24th bombing that killed innocent people. Talk about cold!

For The Record - Oscar Lopez Rivera is where he belongs!

He Is only concerned about HISPANICS,and no other race. He Is a race baiter, and a very sorry excuse for an elected representative. He obviously believes that laws were made to be broken,Instead of followed. He needs to be shown the door, and It needs to be slammed behind him on his way out of Congress...

It's amazing to me that a racist Marxist would be allowed to assume a role of leadership in this United States of America. Even this scum bags name is an insult to the United States. This bastard should be deported to venezuela. This United States is well on its way to becoming a balkanized country and this is just another example of that.

If Guiterez( and the other puerto rican members supporting this garbage) is truly representative of the mindset and beliefs of those who elected him into power, this country is in more trouble than I once thought.
