This video despite the name in the link is an interview between Chris Matthews and Laurence Tribe of Harvard Law on the issue of natural born citizen. Whether you agree or not, it's a good interview where Tribe explains the issue at hand based on original meaning and judicial activism.

The above interview describes that the original definition of natural born citizen in 1788 was not only people born of citizens but born on the land in the USA. Tribe says this is the originalist theory of our Constitution and because it's never been amended or changed, it remains intact. Judicial Activists like Cruz he says are the ones who want to make it mean something else based on later statutes. The first time even a child of a woman could be a citizen was by statute in 1934, which applies to citizenship, but doesn't change the Constitution's Articles like Article II or the qualifications for President or Vice President under the Constitution, which remain the same today as they did then. So Article II remains as written with the meaning of the time when it was written:

Natural Born Citizen:

1. Born 2 US citizens (natural born or naturalized)
2. Born on US soil

Tribe calls Cruz a "constitutional opportunist" and a "hypocrite" because he wants to apply the original meaning of the Constitution in his own mind to women, gays and others, but not to himself when the time came to do so.

It's not Rachel, it's Chris Matthews. I guess her name is in the link because it's her show and he's filling in or something. But the interview is conducted by Chris Matthews, not Rachel. Watch it, it's a really good interview with Tribe who explains what he's talking about, whether you agree or not doesn't matter, it's a good explanation of the issue at hand.

I don't like Chris Mathews either and I think he would begin to like anyone to get his numbers up. He has proven himself to be nothing but a liberal shill for years. JMO

The U.S. Constitution is a document of its time. In government, as in religion, documents should be the basis for understanding core values, but not for creating strict dogma.
