ISSA HINTS AT HOUSE SPEAKER BID, DOWNPLAYS CHAFFETZ RUN FOR SPOT

ISSA HINTS AT HOUSE SPEAKER BID, DOWNPLAYS CHAFFETZ RUN FOR SPOT

    by JEFF POOR9 Oct 2015261

On Friday’s “Morning Joe” on MSNBC, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA)
discussed the state of the House Speaker’s race in the wake of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA)’s (R-CA) announcement that he was no longer running for the spot, which is soon to be vacated by Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) (R-CA).Issa said it would be his preference to have someone experienced and has served as a committee chairman. He included himself and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) in that category.“The fact is, yes, I think that I could potentially be a candidate,” Issa said. “At the same time, I agree with the vast majority of members, I think. We need a Paul Ryan or we need somebody who is a — experienced, b — has been a committee chairman or something other than just up through the leadership ranks. We very definitely need to pick our fights carefully, but we need somebody who is willing to do those fights, when the time comes, because the motion of our party has been to the right. The new members, the members since 2010, they’re more conservative. They’re more interested in real fiscal reform. And they’ve been denied by the K Street, if you will, influence the ability to actually get votes that were fiscally responsible. We’ve had some tough votes.”

On the candidacy of Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT)
, Issa downplayed his effort and pointed to his tenure as House Oversight Committee chairman.“Well, look, Jason’s a good man — a honorable man,” Issa added. “But he got his job by going to Boehner and saying he would shut down that rancor that was going on. That he would go along, get along. And he’s done that. He put shining pictures of Utah on the wall and he basically stopped doing it. There hasn’t been a single committee report or staff report published since he’s been chairman. The fact is, he’s a good guy, but whatever he was as a freshman, when he was a fighter on our committee, when he was trying to hold government accountable, he took a break from that. And I think that’s going to hurt him. Not whether I get into the race or not.”

“It’s already hurt him,” he continued. “He didn’t have thirty votes going into the race. I don’t think he’s going to get the 240. But, let’s understand something. I wouldn’t have the hubris to determine whether I’m the 240 candidate or Paul Ryan. This is something where the conference has to dig deep. They have to ask the question, “Who can we unite behind?” This is a job that you can’t run for. You can make yourself available for it. But the conference really has to look hard. Not for who’s got the most whips calling, but who can really make a difference beyond 218. Because the day after you’re speaker, you have to make hard decisions and, like Joe said earlier, you have to be able to go to people and say, “I promise to bring up your issue, but I need you to do this for me now,” and you’ve got to keep those promises. And that was one of those areas that Boehner ran out of the ability to get people to say yes to.”

Oh my God, I would LOVE Darrell Issa. He's a B on immigration, according to NumbersUSA, but that's mainly because of a visa program he supported, but I also would imagine that he will have changed his position on that and did not rate well at changing the status quo, but with all the heat on now, I believe he would be for it. Otherwise, he's A+ on all the specifics of stopping illegal immigration.

I love Darrel Issa. It was his committee that did the investigation into how much money in our economy is funneled into 501 C 3 "charities". At the time and this was a few years ago, it was $1.3 TRILLION a year in tax exempt revenue diverted from our economy into these mostly tax fraud "charities", they owned over $2 trillion in tax exempt assets, and they employed 15 million people. Can you imagaine? In "charity"? Where is the charity? Where is it? Right. It's not there. These outfits collect more in tax exempt "charity" revenue than all US poverty programs combined. If they were actually spending their $1.3 million a year on "charity", we wouldn't need a Medicaid program, Food Stamps, Free School Lunch, WIC, TANF, SCHIP, HUD low income housing or ObamaCare.

Darrell Issa is thinking about running for Speaker. This man will be amazing as Speaker. He's all business, no-nonsense, believes in liberty, has a pretty good rating with numbersusa for immigration, and has A+ on all the big important items to stop illegal immigration. He's perfect, he's mature, he's accomplished, he's articulate, and he's all business, get the job done type of person.

I love Darrell Issa. Lets examine him and put out an endorsement if you all think he's strong enough on immigration. He's gotten tougher as time and numbers march on.

Darrell Issa Calls For Obama To Restart Deportation Of Dreamers
    Posted: 06/24/2014 4:10 pm EDT

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) is asking colleagues to sign on to a letter to the president demanding he end a program that keeps young people with longstanding ties to the U.S. from being deported.

The letter, which was obtained by The Huffington Post and confirmed by two offices that received it, blames President Barack Obama for a current crisis of unaccompanied minors crossing the border illegally. It specifically singles out his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy, or DACA, which allows young undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children to stay and work legally.

Issa has contacted colleagues asking them to sign the message to Obama by the end of the day on Thursday. Issa's office did not respond to a request for comment.

DACA does not allow immigrants who crossed the border illegally recently to gain legal status -- anyone who entered the country after June 15, 2007, is ineligible -- and Issa acknowledged that in his letter to Obama. But he still said the policy, which has aided more than 550,000 young people so far, is partially to blame for the current crisis.

"[T]he very existence of the program contradicts present law and violates the Constitutional principle of a separation of powers which grants primary law making authority to the Congress," Issa wrote. "The Executive does not get to pick and choose which laws must be enforced and which can be selectively ignored. .. DACA rewards families and individuals who have broken our laws, further encouraging others to seek similar benefits."

Issa wrote later that Obama should "make an explicit public commitment that [he] will not support legislation that extends legal status to newly arriving illegal aliens no matter the age." The immigration reform bill that passed the Senate last year does not allow people who came to the U.S. after the end of 2011 to earn legal status -- meaning children who enter today wouldn't be eligible for that reprieve, either.

Obama's push for immigration reform that would include legal status for undocumented immigrants has stalled in the House of Representatives, which has voted to defund programs such as DACA but avoided other legislation on the issue. Issa was at one point working on his own bill to give temporary legal status to undocumented immigrants, but it was never introduced.

Republicans have said the president's immigration record and support for reform created the view abroad that anyone can come to the U.S. without consequences. The Obama administration has acknowledged that misinformation has circulated, even though the children who have entered recently are ineligible for DACA or legal status under the Senate bill, and say falsehoods are being spread by smugglers. Children who come to the country illegally are put into removal proceedings, although a judge may eventually rule, on a case-by-case basis, that they can stay.

Issa wrote in his letter that Obama should investigate whether there is fraud and abuse in the "generous" asylum system and provide Congress with more data on the recent unaccompanied minor crisis.

The congressman also wrote that Obama should stop a review by Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson into the administration's deportation policies. Obama delayed that review until the end of the summer to give the House of Representatives time to act on reform -- which, so far, looks unlikely to happen -- but has not ruled out future actions to limit deportations.

Issa wrote that Obama's review was encouraging children to immigrate illegally.

"Your continued commitment to circumvent Congress and implement policies contrary to the intent of immigration law sends foreign nationals the false hope that administrative amnesty is possible," he wrote.

Darrell Issa Tells Obama To Forget About Immigration Reform And Deport DREAMers
By: Justin Baragona more from Justin Baragona
    Wednesday, July 2nd, 2014, 6:45 pm

On Wednesday, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), released a letter to the press that he had sent to the White House earlier in the day. The letter, signed by 32 other House republicans, essentially demanded that President Obama proceed with deporting all of the DREAMers. (DREAMers are undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children.) The letter also requested that President Obama forget about comprehensive immigration reform being passed, especially if it includes a pathway to citizenship.

Below is an excerpt from the letter. The entire letter can be read here.

Firstly, we call on you to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program created, without congressional support, by your Administration in June, 2012. While the current program only applies to arrivals prior to 2007, the very existence of the program contradicts present law and violates the Constitutional principle of a separation of powers which grants primary law making authority to the Congress. The Executive does not get to pick and choose which laws must be enforced and which can be selectively ignored. Further, DACA rewards families and individuals who have broken our laws, further encouraging others to seek similar benefits. The DACA program must be immediately ended to send a clear signal to all individuals that our immigration laws will be enforced.

Secondly, you must make an explicit public commitment that you will not support legislation that extends legal status to newly arriving illegal aliens no matter the age. Secretary Johnson’s statement that S. 744, the Senate’s immigration proposal, would not confer benefits to the newly arriving UACs is insufficient to mitigate the popular belief that a pathway to citizenship will be available to any individual in the United States. We request that you remove from consideration any preferential treatment for individuals who have recently illegally crossed our borders.

I think we need to revise the Cantor List based on new facts, new ratings by NumbersUSA, new positions, actual positions, reasons for positions and so forth.
