Jim Jordan Gets It: Build The Wall Or Lose The GOP Majority

Jim Jordan Gets It: Build The Wall Or Lose The GOP Majority

    July 31, 2018

    CHQ Staff

President Trump has made it clear that funding and building the wall on our southern border is his most important unfulfilled campaign pledge. And his supporters – that is 80 to 90 percent of Republican voters – expect Congress to act to fulfill that pledge.

So why when Trump said bluntly during a joint press conference Monday afternoon with Italy's prime minister, "I would have no problem doing a shutdown" was that considered a bombshell?

It merely confirmed Trump’s tweet from over the weekend: "I would be willing to 'shut down' government if the Democrats do not give us the votes for Border Security, which includes the Wall," Trump tweeted on Sunday. "Must get rid of Lottery, Catch & Release etc. and finally go to system of Immigration based on MERIT! We need great people coming into our Country!"

Yet, CNN’s lefty Editor-at-large Chris Cillizza said, Trump’s pronouncements landed “like a rotting fish head at a dinner party” for the likes of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan.

Why would a top DC insider political reporter think fulfilling the campaign promise that arguably won Donald Trump the election landed “like a rotting fish head at a dinner party” for the GOP’s congressional leaders?

Probably because Cillizza knows that Ryan and McConnell do not have, and never have had, any intention of funding the wall.

And it wouldn’t surprise me if he also knew or at least suspects that they don’t care if failing to build the wall loses the GOP their majority.

After all, Ryan is on his way out and needs a job from the open borders crowd on K Street when he leaves the House, and McConnell has already shown he could care less about building the Senate majority having abandoned potentially winning candidates because they were conservatives and would be a pain in the neck to him if elected.

Keep in mind the House of Representatives adjourned for the rest of the summer last Thursday, leaving itself only 11 legislative days when it returns in September to pass legislation to avert a government shutdown just weeks before the midterm election, so Ryan and McConnell are counting on another round of “government by crisis” to get them past the election without acting on Trump’s most important campaign promise.

But there’s one GOP leader who sees it differently: Rep. Jim Jordan.

In a wide-ranging interview with our friends at Conservative Review [25], Jim Jordan said he does not want Republicans to pass non-controversial spending bills, delaying a vote on funding a border wall until after the November elections. He wants Republicans to fight.

More importantly, he wants them to win and deliver legislative victories for President Trump and the American people.
That’s why he’s running for Speaker of the House, Jordan told Conservative Review’s Chris Pandolfo.

But before leadership elections happen in late fall, Republicans need to maintain control of Congress. And Jordan has a clear vision for how the GOP can take its case directly to the American people and win in November, one that doesn’t involve surrendering to the Democrats in the upcoming government shutdown fight this October.

“I think it’s important that we try to nationalize these elections and talk about the agenda that the American people elected President Trump to accomplish,” Jordan said.

Telling Pandolfo he believes it’s “critical” to champion Trump’s accomplishments on the campaign trail while members of Congress are in recess this August.

Whether it’s repealing regulations, the tax cuts, the booming 4.1% economic growth and record low unemployment, or Trump’s record on judges, canceling the Iran nuclear deal, moving the embassy to Jerusalem, or securing the release of American hostages from North Korea, Jordan believes Republicans should go on offense to voters with the Trump presidency.

And history proves that Rep. Jim Jordan is right – Republicans never win big elections unless they nationalize them.

Let’s face it, Republicans are never going to outbid Democrats in an auction for votes, because you can’t beat free.

And Democrats are already touting a clueless twenty-something Socialist as the future of their Party.

However, the messaging of the national leadership of the Republican Party has largely been content-free or Big Government Republicanism, which is the type of campaign that lost the GOP the 2008 and 2012 Presidential elections.

The only thing Republicans have that can beat free is what Jim Jordan has been running his campaign for Speaker on – keeping the promises made in the 2016 election.

And the wall on the southern border is central to that winning national campaign.

As CHQ Chairman Richard A. Viguerie said after the GOP’s abysmal showing in the PA-18 special congressional election, “The GOP’s abysmal results in the Pennsylvania Special Congressional Election were entirely predictable. To maintain or grow their majorities Republican must field high-energy candidates who will run as conservatives, nationalize the election, and brand the Democrats as the Party of Nancy Pelosi: Far Left radicals who want open borders, amnesty for illegal aliens, higher taxes, abortion on demand, more government and regulation, and who are weak on national defense and the war on terror, and wrong on the cultural issues.”

We can think of no better way to destroy what little enthusiasm grassroots conservatives have for Republican congressional candidates (see PA-18 results) than to go into the 2018 midterm without funding the wall.

I was glad to see DACA not mentioned as part of President Trump's demands! I hope it stays separate!

so Ryan and McConnell are counting on another round of “government by crisis” to get them past the election without acting on Trump’s most important campaign promise.
No more CRs. These two idiots may say there will be no government shutdown, but if they don't produce a budget that President Trump is willing to sign, and if President Trump refuses to give them more time by signing on to another CR, the government will be shut down and there will be nothing McConnell and Ryan can do about that!

Forcing Congress-critters to take a position before the elections will give the voters a choice of who they support to look out for this country. If the country supports liberals who want open borders, our country will be lost. If those who care about this country end up losing, at least they went down fighting. Are these "representatives" looking out for their country or just their careers in politics?

I guess I haven't seen all the rules for posting!

The link was there, wasn't it?

On other boards you could only edit for 15 minutes after a post.
