Ohio Gov. John Kasich said Sunday that GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump faces an uphill climb in Ohio, a key battleground in the 2016 White House race.

Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Mr. Kasich — who has refused to endorse Mr. Trump and remains one of the real estate mogul’s toughest Republican critics — said the candidate’s rhetoric remains too divisive and inflammatory for the majority of voters in his state. Ohio is seen as key to Mr. Trump’s chances of beating Democrat Hillary Clinton in November.”

“Can Trump win Ohio? He’s going to win parts of Ohio where people are really hurting … But I still think it’s difficult if you are dividing to be able to win in Ohio. I think it’s really, really difficult,” Mr. Kasich said.

The Republican governor and former presidential candidate also defended his decision last month not to attend the party’s nominating convention in Cleveland, saying he’s taking a principled stand in not supporting Mr. Trump.

“My actions have spoken louder than any words. And think about this: I want to know when anybody had a convention in their state when they were the governor who didn’t go into the convention hall,” Mr. Kasich said.

The governor also confirmed that top Trump staffers reached out to his aides to offer Mr. Kasich the post as Mr. Trump’s vice-presidential nominee, though he said he never considered the offer and had no interest whatsoever in joining the ticket.

Moving forward, Mr. Kasich said he still isn’t sure who he’ll vote for in November, adding that it pains him he’s not able to support his party’s choice.

“I wish I could be fully enthusiastic. I can’t be,” he said.

Trump's rhetoric is far less divisive than yours, John Kasich. Trump is bringing Americans together, Trump is trying to unify our party, behind goals of secure borders, improved trade deals, bringing jobs and our industry back home, creating jobs for American Workers, raising American wages by creating, maintaining and bringing home our best paying jobs that trade has sucked out of our country. Trump treats everyone the same, women and men, black and white, there is nothing divisive about Trump's rhetoric.

What you are relying on is what the Media has told you Trump said, when he either didn't say it, or said it in a different context to make a point about a problem or it was a joke at a rally or any number of other normal situations. You don't support his Muslim ban. Well, what was your plan to protect Americans from Radical Islamic Terrorists migrating to the US to live here, set up shop and commit Jihad against US? Sit down, sing Kumbaya, and give everyone a hug? That's juvenile, Kasich. That isn't going to fly as a solution to our any of our major problems which must be solved and solved fast.

You don't like his statement more than a year ago about Mexico not sending US their best in illegal immigration, well, how would you put it? They're just coming here for a better life? Give them a lifetime of Medicaid and Welfare and a Hug? Is that your solution to illegal immigration? That's not a solution, that's a silly irresponsible perpetuation of the problem. Trump hit it head on, the good people of Mexico are not coming here violating our laws, because good people don't do that. Bad people do that.

Trump is the one who can fix this country, and it is extremely disappointing to see you behaving in the divisive manner you are. This isn't about conscience. There is no moral or conscience issue at stake here. There is the American Interest of our Nation and Citizens at stake and Trump wants to straighten out this suicidal quagmire we're in which requires straight talk and bold actions to achieve, not hugs and rolling your head around spewing silly juvenile crap like you're talking to a second grade Sunday School Class. Come on! You need to grow up and get over yourself. Honestly.

Fresh batch of Republicans defect to Clinton

A former aide of President George W. Bush undercut Donald Trump’s economic address before it even began Monday, leading the latest batch of Republican defections by casting Hillary Clinton as the best candidate to grow the economy.

“Our nation faces a unique set of challenges that require steady and experienced leadership. That is why today I am personally supporting Hillary Clinton,” Lezlee Westine said in a statement to The Washington Post.

Westine, who served as the White House’s director of public liaison and deputy assistant to the president in the Bush administration, is part of the latest contingent of Republicans to cross party lines to back Clinton.

“She has the expertise and commitment to American values to grow the economy, create jobs and protect America at home and abroad,” Westine added.

Westine is joined by former Michigan Gov. William Milliken, who suggested a vote for Trump would be a choice to “embark on a path that has doomed other governments and nations throughout history.”

“I am saddened and dismayed that the Republican Party this year has nominated a candidate who has repeatedly demonstrated that he does not embrace those ideals,” Milliken said in a statement, according to the Detroit Free Press. “Because I feel so strongly about our nation's future, I will be joining the growing list of former and present government officials in casting my vote for Hillary Clinton for president in 2016.”

Former New Hampshire Sen. Gordon Humphrey said he would cast his ballot for Clinton if she were “neck and neck” with Trump in his state. But Trump, he said, is a “defective nominee” who is “deranged” and whose “psyche is sick,” and the Republican National Committee should replace him as the nominee.

“It would be the height of irresponsibility to give him the powers of the presidency. It would be an act of recklessness to give him the office of commander in chief,” he told MSNBC on Monday. “This needs to be said, and there’s a growing census in agreement that Donald Trump is mentally unfit to be president of the United States.

And the RNC on that account, this week or next, should revoke the nomination and choose a candidate who is experienced, but at the same time, of mental soundness.”
