    John McCain

This guy is freakin crazy. He was in Irvine, CA today speaking to about 100 hispanic business leaders. He was telling them that most Americans support amnesty, and that they need to be the voice for the illegals.

He also said that amnesty means forgiveness. He said that it's not amnesty because the illegals would have to pay $3000 fine, background checks, pay back taxes, and on and on.

He is such an idiot. I can hardly listen to him.

And this guy wants to run for President - yea right, my ass.

Guess he is already planning on getting votes for when he runs for president. He is more interested in the illegal immigrants than what American citizens want (except big biz). $3,000, big deal. And who and how would that be enforced? That senate bill can't pass, it is insane...oh, I'm having trouble not ranting so I will stop.

On Lou Dobbs tonight he reported that many that voted for that bill had almost no idea what was in it, especially what it will cost the country in the coming years. And that they RUSHED it through under pressure. Well, if the house takes its time reading it, on both sides, maybe it'll be thrown in the fireplace and rewritten...

McCain pulls out of Bilbray fundraiser

Rift on immigration leads to cancellation

Republican Sen. John McCain was scheduled to host a fundraiser for congressional candidate Brian Bilbray today – but immigration got in the way.

Bilbray has disdainfully called the McCain-backed immigration bill “amnesty” for illegal immigrants, something McCain disputes. Bilbray's Democratic opponent in the race, Francine Busby, supports the Arizona senator's proposal, calling it “a tough, comprehensive plan.”

Yesterday, as Busby pointed out the irony with online ads, McCain pulled out of the fundraiser.

“Senator McCain has canceled his appearance on behalf of Brian Bilbray to avoid distracting from the overall message of the Bilbray campaign,” Craig Goldman, executive director of McCain's political action committee, said in a statement.

“The senator and Brian may disagree on some of the issues related to immigration reform. But they agree on many other issues important to the voters of California's 50th Congressional District.”

Goldman stressed in the statement, which was e-mailed to Bilbray's campaign manager, that McCain continues to support Bilbray's candidacy and would contribute financially to the campaign. Neither Goldman nor McCain's press contact responded to calls or e-mails yesterday from The San Diego Union-Tribune.

The cancellation came a week before voters go to the polls in the 50th Congressional District, where congressman-turned-lobbyist Bilbray is in a tight runoff against Busby, a Cardiff school board member, to replace former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham. Cunningham is in prison on charges related to taking more than $2 million in bribes from defense contractors.

The winner of Tuesday's election, which also includes a Libertarian and an independent, will complete the last six months of Cunningham's term.

Bilbray said he did not expect McCain's cancellation to hurt his campaign.

“His intention was to come and talk about our history of congressional reform,” Bilbray said. “But after the Senate passed the (immigration) bill last week, the issue will be immigration – and he didn't want to disagree about it in public.”

McCain is considering a presidential run in 2008. His proposal to give illegal immigrants a path to citizenship was incorporated into the final version of a bill approved by the Senate last week.

McCain and other supporters don't consider the proposal amnesty because immigrants would be required to get visas, learn English, pay fines and get background checks before they could apply for citizenship. President Bush also is supportive of allowing many illegal immigrants to become legal, but when Vice President Dick Cheney spoke at a Bilbray fundraiser last month, Bilbray said: “Friends don't let friends give amnesty.”

Bilbray favors the House immigration bill, which focuses solely on enforcement. Among other things, he says if those who employ illegal immigrants are prosecuted harshly, illegal immigrants will return home because they no longer have jobs.

Bilbray's campaign spokesman, Steve Danon, said he got the first call from McCain on Monday to talk about the political climate surrounding immigration. As calls went back and forth, Danon said he told the McCain staff that immigration was the hot issue in the district. McCain's staff later asked Danon to consider excluding press from the fundraiser. After Bilbray refused to rescind press invitations, McCain canceled late yesterday morning, Danon said.

Busby said she had sent McCain a letter Friday urging him to discuss his immigration plan while he was in San Diego, and was disappointed he would be a no-show.

“I thought it would be great to have him talk about his comprehensive reform that I support, and see if Brian is offering any solutions,” Busby said. “Brian has stated many times this is the issue and here is McCain, the (architect) of the Senate bill, here to discuss it. . . . As of yet we have not heard Mr. Bilbray offer any long-term solutions to the immigration problem.”

Republican Reps. Duncan Hunter, the House Armed Services Committee chairman from Alpine, and David Dreier, the chairman of the House Rules Committee from San Dimas, will headline Bilbray's fundraiser in McCain's stead. The $250-a-plate breakfast, which included an opportunity to be photographed with McCain for $1,000, was expected to raise at least $65,000 for Bilbray's campaign.

Campaign staff members called the 138 people who had reserved seats and told them about the change. Danon said eight chose to skip the breakfast, although they didn't ask for their money back.

Somebody needs to infiltrate one of his little speeches and make him explain his statements. First of all where is he getting the information that most Americans support amnesty that he keeps telling everyone. Secondly somebody needs to explain to him what amnesty is.

Wouldn't it be just great to have somebody confront him during one of his speeches in front of a large group of people.

Of all of our elected officials; this guy seems the most odd. I think he is so bitter for not getting the nomination for President that he would dip himself in swamp water if it would get him elected.

He is certainly no conservative; and what is sickening is that even though he has shown himself to do the opposite of the will of the people who elected him no one in the media dare question him on anything because he is a war hero. He was a war hero once, now, as a republicMex he is a disgrace.
