Kochs Signal Support for Scott Walker

Charles G. and David H. Koch, the influential and big-spending conservative donors, have a favorite in the race for the Republican nomination: Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin.

On Monday, at a fund-raising event in Manhattan for the New York State Republican Party, David Koch told donors that he and his brother, who oversee one of the biggest private political organizations in the country, believed that Mr. Walker was the Republican Party’s best hope for recapturing the White House.

“We will support whoever the candidate is,” said Mr. Koch, according to two people who attended the event. “But it should be Scott Walker.”

The remark — made before dozens of top New York donors who had gathered to hear Mr. Walker speak at the Union League Club — could effectively end one of the most closely watched contests in the “invisible primary,” a period where candidates crisscross the country seeking not the support of voters but the blessing of their party’s biggest donors and fund-raisers.

Most of the leading Republican candidates have aggressively courted the Kochs, who control a network of political nonprofits, “super PACs” and hundreds of like-minded donors, all of which are planning to spend almost $900 million over the next two years advancing conservative candidates and policies.

But while the Kochs are influential among their peers, it is unclear whether they will favor Mr. Walker with more than good will.

In his remarks, made after Mr. Walker had addressed the group, Mr. Koch suggested that the political organizations they oversee — which include Americans for Prosperity, a grass-roots organization, and Freedom Partners, a donor trade group with an affiliated super PAC — would not intervene in the Republican primary process on behalf of a single candidate.

But according to the two attendees, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to freely describe the remarks, Mr. Koch indicated that the Koch family might personally offer financial support to Mr. Walker.

It is strange how conservatives support candidates that favor alien labor. Saw a poll this morning and you add the favored percentages of all the candidates and you easily see that Republicans favor non-American workers and cheap labor. But American voters favor all the republican candidates who cut their living standard. That sure did not support what I am told by some friends buy it sure does add credence to my contention that we must not vote for either major party. Explanations accepted. Thoughtful explanation s?

David Koch, one of America's richest businessmen and largest political donors, says he is just fine with giving money to candidates who hold different social views than he does because its his economic concerns that matter most.

"I'm basically a libertarian. And I'm a conservative on economic matters and I'm a social liberal," he told ABC's Barbara Walters in an interview that aired on "This Week."

Koch, who supports gay rights and women's right to choose, said if candidates he gives to don't share those ideals, "That's their problem. I do have those views."

"What I want these candidates to do is to support a balanced budget," Koch said. "I'm really focused intensely on economic and fiscal issues, because if those go bad the country as a whole suffers terribly."

Koch and his brother, Charles, are top executives and board members of Koch Industries, a multinational corporation that is largely involved in manufacturing, energy, trade and investments.

Collectively, the Koch brothers have spent millions of dollars of their personal wealth to promote a small government, free-market agenda.

Often criticized by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat, for his vast campaign spending, Koch said he plays fair and by the rules of the game.

"I contribute to public candidate campaigns and there is a federal limit on how much you can contribute to each individual candidate," Koch said. "They have a law in that regard and I feel that I'm doing it properly.

One day after billionaire businessman and Republican mega-donor David Koch lauded Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, his brother Charles Koch said the brothers' network might back several GOP presidential hopefuls.

The Kochs have settled on five candidates they think have a good message and "a good chance of getting elected," Charles Koch told USA Today.

The five are Walker; former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush; and Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, Rand Paul of Kentucky, and Marco Rubio of Florida.

"What we've told them all is that right now, we're not supporting anyone," Koch told USA Today. "We're telling them that if they want our support, one way to get it is articulating a good message to help Americans get a better understanding and a better appreciation of how certain policies … will benefit them and will benefit all America."

The Kochs would select one over the others only if someone stands out with a message detailing what he would do to benefit America and has a legitimate chance of being elected, Koch said.

But even then there is no guarantee they would select a single candidate to back monetarily, he added.

"We may give several of them some money to get this positive message out," he said.

"What we expect them to do is to compete on who has a more positive message for America, rather than what's wrong with some other candidate and did he smoke pot when he was 15 or whatever."

Charles Koch's comments came after The New York Times reported that his brother David told a group of donors in Manhattan on Monday, "We will support whoever the candidate is, but it should be Scott Walker."

In a statement sent to Newsmax on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the brothers said they have not yet supported any candidate.

"While I think Governor Walker is terrific, let me be clear, I am not endorsing or supporting any candidate for president at this point in time," David Koch said in the statement.

Stop illegal immigration and reduce legal immigration (this reduces unemployment, underemployment, welfare recipients and welfare spending and raises wages, increases individual and family self-reliance, and saves taxpayers a bunch of money while raising the standard of living for all Americans)

2. Pass the FairTax (this eliminates all income and earnings based income taxes which increases net wages, net income, net profits, net expendable income, and brings home our industries and offshore-stored capital while leveling the playing field for our US based domestic manufacturers as they compete in a global economy)

3. Protect Our Trade (this protects our domestic businesses, Americans workers, trade balances, and overall economy from unfair competition and ends the adverse consequences of around $800 billion a year in trade deficits)

4. End the War on Drugs with a Legalization Domestic Only US Citizen Only run domestic drug trade, tax it under the FairTax, use a portion of taxes only drug users pay to better educate the public and provide free rehab on demand without stigma for anyone who wants or needs it (this saves our economy over $300 billion a year that leaves our country in foreign controlled drug sales and saves our citizens from the ravages of foreign drug cartel based crime and agendas from gangs to illegal immigration and open borders to allow their drug runners and operators in and haul the money out)

5. Drill Baby Drill, But Do It Right (reduces the cost of energy which increases the competitiveness of our economy)

Growth based on population growth is not positive growth because it has negative outcomes. Growth based on production however is all positive because all the outcomes are positive. Consequently, the population growth sought by pro-immigration advocates has proven its negative outcomes, i. e., more unemployment, more poverty, more welfare spending, more government, and more national debt.

Therefore, people who claim they support less government, lower taxes and balanced budgets can not in good faith support immigration, illegal or legal, or free trade policies as "growth" strategies to benefit the United States, because doing so is living, funding and touting an oxymoron.

You've posted this before and like I said then, I do not support #2 & #4. No need to discuss them because we've already had those conversations at length.

Yes, I've posted it for years on this site and others. Maybe after a couple of more years of US failure, someone will pay attention and decide to follow these steps to fix the US economy. You can improve it with 1, 3 and 5, but you can't fix it without 2 and 4. Eventually you'll see that because in my opinion, you are an intelligent person.
