    Illegal Immigration

Three major problems that plague the United States today, 1. Security of the United States, 2. The high cost of health care, 3. The raping of social security. These three problems that face the nation today all have a common denominator, illegal immigration. It is a simple as the noses on the politicians. The country could save billions of dollars if they would only enact the laws that are already on the books on illegal immigration. But, when there are three other problems plaguing our government, Big Business, Professional Policitians and Special Interest Groups, not much will be done for "We The People".

Hi Bud, welcome to alipac...you'll enjoy the company of likeminded citizens on this site.

Of those three major roadblocks you mention we can eliminate number two. I sincerely hope we do start clearing out the deadwood this fall.

We also have to look at the illegal immigration issue from the labor point of view. As the "baby-boomers" retire in droves, we will need skilled labor to replace them otherwise it will stunt the growth of our economy. The American population is not keeping up with demand for labor in the near future. I believe FAIR had an article on their website about the upcoming labor shortage we will face.

It was interestng because while we need to curb illegal immigration from South America, we also have to find a solution to the coming labor shortage. Either increase immigration quotas or start having more kids. The reason I brought it up is because this exact issue came up in my Management class.

Ummm, the "baby boomers" retirements will be spread over the next 20 years, not all at once. Also, there are more American children under age 18 than there are baby boomers. Plus we already have 500,000 legal immigrants added to the labor force every year. And some of those baby boomers want to keep working instead of retiring. So there is no need for illegal aliens, guest workers, or additional legal immigrants to prevent a "labor pool shrinkage", as the US Chamber of Commerce claims. That is where you saw the article, not on FAIR's website.

The only labor shortage would be among people willing to work for $5 an hour with no benefits, which is what the US Chamber wants.

Maybe you management class needs to take another look at this.

Welcome to you both. One more major problem that you might consider that illegal immigration has brought America, a heavy criminal mentallity.

I have witnessed it here in my area almost daily. This mentallity is one that comes from a life being lived within a country and society riddled with corruption, where it's citizens live complacently within it.

As I am aware, there are many good people that might have come here really wanting to get away from the corruption, but the act of coming here illegally cannot be tolerated, none the less.

There is also a very real racial undercurrent. I will not try to lump Americans of Hispanic/Latino descent with them, this seems to be an issue that has come in with the illegals themselves. They have an absolute distain for (at the least) white Americans (possibly all, but being white I am only familiar with my end of it).

These people think nothing of using forged documents to get what they want from our government. This kind of thing undermines our society and begins a downward spiral of crime within our communities.

Hopefully we can eliminate the issue of illegal immigration and deport those who have become criminals by entering our country illegally.

No I apologize that article was on the bottom of the FAIR chairman's website (www.steinreport.com) a few weeks ago, it was not focused on on the main page. I am uncertain of the statistics of the American population under 18, but America certainly has a low birth rate. I am willing to bet that most of the growth in the population under 18 is due to legal and illegal immigration (mostly Hispanic).

I will bring it up with the Professor however and see what he has to say. You have to remember that we not only have to sustain the amount of workers currently in the U.S. workforce but we also need growth because our economy is always growing. Start having kids folks! Having two only sustains the population, replacing the mother and the father, each American family will need to have at least three kids in order to sustain a growing population. The average child per woman in the U.S. is 2.08 according to the CIA Factbook, and much of that is due to Hispanic immigrants. If the average was taken during the early to late 1980's or early 1990's, the total child per woman in the U.S. would be lower I suppose, I do not have those statistics.

Well I see right there you have bought in to the "we need population growth for economic growth" fallacy. If that was the case, why does China, which has a lower population growth rate than the US and a one child policy, have an economic growth rate 3 times higher? It's because they are rapidly improving productivity. Increased productivity was responsible for most of Americas economic growth in the 20th Century.

You are correct that Hispanic immigrants have more chilcren than everyone else in America, but it is not a big difference. There is a CIS report which has all this data. And if Americans were not forced to financially support illegal aliens, they would likely be having 2.1 children. Especially if they knew the other option is legalizing illegal aliens.

Tell all this to your professor, and see what he says.

When our population was still relatively small we had the greatest increases in quality of life. That is still true. The smaller the population the richer the residents are per capita.

We cannot sustain a great deal of population growth. The southwestern states do not have enough water, etc.

What we really NEED is a reduction in the number of people working for the government. That would enrich us more quickly than anything else.

welcome Troll- next time use the paragraph key.
They are not eligible to receive any social security or Medicaid benefits, yet they pay for them. Thus, the Social Security Administration and Medicaid have more money to assist YOU,
before you come here and play Noble Liberal - do your research - yes they receive medicaid and all kinds of government services-
