Kris Kobach: '99.9 Percent Sure' Trump's Wall Will Be on Platform

By: Sandy Fitzgerald
Donald Trump's call for a wall at the Mexican border will most likely be included in the Republican Party's platform covering the next four years, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a GOP delegate and member of the party's Platform Committee said Monday.
"I'm 99.9 percent sure that will be in the platform," Kobach told Fox News' Steve Doocy on the "Fox & Friends" program. "Republicans have generally for many years, going all the way back to Congress in 2006, been in favor of a wall."
The wall, being that will be included in the platform, will be a "real wall, not sensors, a physical barrier," Kobach continued. "That will be in contrast to what the Democrats have because they stand for an open border policy. I say I think because the platform is an organic process. It's 112 people here in Cleveland today and tomorrow [who] can change it, can amend it."
The Platform Committee will meet on Monday and Tuesday and then again on Thursday and Friday, and that could be when the "Never Trump" contingent could make its last stand, noted Doocy, to which Kobach agreed.
Some other items Trump favors, such as punishment of nations that violate trade pacts could also be included, as could language concerning same-sex marriage and considering Mexico "more of an adversary" said Doocy,
"Different delegates have their own preferences so I'm, for example, not pushing any changes to our statements on the issue of traditional marriage but there may be some delegates who try and we'll have a debate about it," said Kobach.
Republicans allow the press to watch as the committee argues the platform, he continued, while Democrats are more closed about the process.
He said he also expects there will be language included on taking a tough stance on the Islamic State.
"That's one of the reasons why we have to revisit our platform every four years," he told Doocy. "This issue has come up. Obviously we had terrorism and Islamic fundamentalism we were dealing with. We have a very specific enemy. I suspect we'll see something in the platform. You may see a lot."
