LA Mayor Garcetti Goes Full Dictator – Will Shut Down Water and Power For Those Who Defy “Stay At Home” Order…

Posted on March 24, 2020 by sundance

First they released the prisoners. Then the LA Sheriff shut down all the gun stores, saying they were not essential services…. Now LA Mayor Garcetti announces he will shut down water and electricity for anyone who attempts to defy the stay at home edicts.

…”The easiest way to avoid a visit” from the LA storm-troopers “is to follow the rules”… “Your behavior can save a life” Garcetti said, “And that life could be yours.”…

The official “neighborhood prosecutors” have been assigned. The LA Directorate of Coronavirus Compliance has now been activated. Choose carefully comrade citizen. That’s a nice place you’ve got there, it’d be a shame if anything happened to it..

    Los Angeles
    – […] He reminded young people that the virus can hit them too, urging them to stay at home and practice social distancing.

“Your behavior can save a life and take a life,” Garcetti said. “And that life could be yours.”

The mayor addressed President Trump’s remarks from earlier Tuesday about having the nation “opened up and just raring to go by Easter.” Garcetti said he didn’t think L.A. would be back to normal “in that short time.”
“We won’t extend it one day longer than we need to,” Garcetti said, but emphasized that the “safer at home” measure had to be followed through.

The mayor said L.A. is six to 12 days behind New York in being hit with a wave of positive cases.
“The peak is not here yet,” he said. “It will be bad.”
Garcetti emphasized the need for medical workers who can test, treat, heal and tend to coronavirus patients. He announced that together with L.A. County, the city has opened up a portal for medical personnel recruitment, with both paid and pro-bono positions.

“We need to be prepared for some of the darkness that is ahead,” the mayor said. “Each one of us can be a light. We can light a match of hope. We can navigate that tunnel with each other and not alone. And more importantly, what we do can ensure that more people exit that tunnel together… and that our city will rise again.”

The mayor went on to announce the “business ambassadors program” — an effort to get nonessential businesses to close.

“This behavior is irresponsible and selfish,” he said of those that remain open.

He said the Department of Water and Power will shut off services for the businesses that don’t comply with the “safer at home” ordinance.

Neighborhood prosecutors will implement safety measures and will contact the businesses before issuing further action, according to Garcetti. (read more)

Quite frankly. Shut down California, Washington, and New York. Do not let them travel out of their states.

Everybody go back to work Monday. We cannot shut down our entire economy for another 3 weeks.

If you are sick, stay home. If you are elderly with medical conditions stay home. The rest of us need paychecks and the swamp is not going to deliver that without adding another $2 - $4 trillion in debt that we do not need.

Actually it is nonessential businesses that refuse to close that will have their water and power shut off.

Los Angeles will shut off water and power for nonessential businesses that refuse to close

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti opened his daily briefing Tuesday recognizing what may have been the first teenage COVID-19 death in L.A. County and went on to announce actions against nonessential businesses that don’t close and a new portal for recruiting medics.

He reminded young people that the virus can hit them too, urging them to stay at home and practice social distancing.

“The easiest way to avoid a visit is to follow the rules,” he said.

On Sunday, Garcetti had announced the city’s online portal where high-risk residents could sign up to get tested for COVID-19. As of Tuesday, 2,800 tests were completed, according to the mayor, and in the coming three days, that capacity would double to 5,500 tests.

“Every test is crucial and I wish we could be doing so many more,” Garcetti said.

Similar to those of the past week, the press conference was held remotely with media dialing in by phone to heed social distancing rules.

The briefing came after Garcetti announced an emergency order Monday, prohibiting residential rental units from being removed from the rental market.

The mayor had also announced that restaurants and bars could deliver alcoholic beverages, as a means of stimulating business.

An L.A. City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled until further notice.

L.A. County had 669 confirmed coronavirus cases as of Tuesday, with 11 deaths. The state had 2,566 cases with 51 deaths.

    Mayor Eric Garcetti

    @MayorOfLA

I know we're all anxious to return to our routines –– to see the people we love and visit the places that make this city home. But please take this health pandemic seriously –– stay home and practice physical distancing. Every single choice you make could save a life or risk one.

The "beach" is non-essential business and thousands flocked to the beach. Those Mayors and Governor Newsom did nothing to close those beaches down.

How police will respond to outings, group gatherings amid orders to prevent COVID-19 spread

    MARCH 23, 2020 8:47 PM

As cities across the county impose restrictions that discourage outings in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, police say they are focused on education — not enforcement — at least for now.

The strongest stance came Monday afternoon from San Diego police Chief David Nisleit and Mayor Kevin Faulconer, who announced he had ordered the closure of city parks, trails and beaches.

“The time for education is ending, and the time for enforcement is beginning,” the mayor said.

“Officers can and will fine individuals (who) don’t comply.”

Still, officials said police will continue to educate the public before moving on to enforcement if people don’t comply.

The message came after a police spokesman said the department was focused on education to gain compliance with orders against group gatherings and certain outings.

“We are pleading with the community to really understand that this virus spreads person to person,” police Lt. Shawn Takeuchi said late Monday morning.

Following the remarks from the chief and mayor, Takeuchi said the Police Department had been focused on education in part because of a gray area in terms of what the public was allowed to do outdoors under local and state orders. With Monday’s order from the mayor, officers can clearly enforce the closures.

Police can rely on at least two laws to enforce state emergency and health orders.

At least in San Diego, police can also crack down on unlawful access to closed areas under a municipal code.

Violations of the laws are misdemeanors subject to a fine of up to $1,000, up to six months in jail or both.

Chula Vista police officials took a similar position as their counterparts in San Diego, saying they may consider enforcement.

“The COVID-19 crisis is fluid and rapidly evolving, so enforcement of group gathering laws could take place down the road, but for now community education is the primary goal for our officers,” Chula Vista police Lt. Dan Peak said.

Officials from El Cajon to Carlsbad and within the Sheriff’s Department said they hope to gain voluntary compliance with state and local orders that broadly require people to stay home.

The orders allow people to go out only for essential purposes, such as exercise, so long as they stay 6 feet away from others and avoid engaging in groups.

Across the county, cities have imposed additional measures to discourage group outings and gatherings. In San Diego on Sunday, a day before full closures, parking lots were closed and gatherings were prohibited at city parks, trails and beaches.

The move came a day after people took advantage of sunny weather by flocking to popular outdoor spots across the county.

Other cities followed suit on Monday. Chula Vista closed its parks, while Carlsbad closed its beaches, parks and trails.

City and police officials said the hope is that groups don’t mingle outdoors, especially where others regularly gather.

“It is simply irresponsible to congregate,” Faulconer said Monday.

Takeuchi encouraged people to exercise around their homes, and to stay away from parks and beaches, if possible.

If officers do come across gatherings or groups, officials said, officers will educate them about local and state orders. Takeuchi said if people are gathered at a business that is supposed to be closed, officers will educate the business owner about the orders.

Agencies in San Diego, Carlsbad and Escondido said they’ve gotten reports of people gathering in groups or not abiding by social distancing rules.

Officers generally respond on a case-by-case basis.

Escondido police Lt. Kevin Toth said he was aware of three complaints his department received in recent days. All were reported after the fact, too late for officers to respond.

“I believe one was an AA meeting, the other was some sort of church function and the third was some type of construction project,” he said.

In Carlsbad on Monday, before the closure of city parks, trails and beaches, officers set out to hand out fliers to alert people to the orders against group gatherings.

“People congregating anywhere in Carlsbad, not allowing 6 feet of separation and creating groups is a cause for our concern,” city spokeswoman Jodee Reyes said.

The parking lot at La Jolla Shores beach was closed and only a couple of people were walking on the beach on Monday. The lot was closed due the ban on gatherings during to the coronavirus. Later in the day San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced the closure of all city beaches, parks and trails.

A little late I would say.

California should have done this over a week ago.

Of course, they are their own lawless Nation now that can do as they please, until they need money and Federal assistance from our President.
