Latinos Among Bay Area Trump Supporters Heading to Inauguration

There were many Latinos among the Bay Area’s 300,000-plus people who voted for President-elect Donald Trump, and some of them will be attending this week’s historic inauguration in support of America’s soon-to-be 45th president.

“We did anything and everything to get him elected and it’s so exciting that the people spoke and elected him,” Kim Womack, who started and took the Santa Clara County Trump campaign from a mere 23 volunteers to 975 volunteers by the election, told the San Jose Mercury News.

“What’s fantastic is that we now have this opportunity to go to D.C. It’s the chance of a lifetime.”

Clinton received nearly 3 million more votes than Trump in California. However, the Investors Business Daily noted that if the Golden State was removed from the equation, Trump would have won 1.4 million more popular votes than Clinton.

Minorities who campaigned for Trump weathered a tough storm: nearly a year-and-a-half of criticism, the loss of friends and often cold family receptions. Now, they are savoring the victory.

According to the Mercury News, approximately 600 people are expected at the black-tie gala Latino Inaugural 2017 on Thursday, at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

“It was really hard for a really long time to be a Trump supporter, especially in the Bay Area,” Corrin Rankin, who chaired California’s African-Americans for Trump coalition, told the Mercury News. “We all received more than our fair share of push-back from strangers, family and friends.”

While some Californians are planning to join and support Trump on his big day, many of their counterparts will be flying to D.C. for the exact opposite reason. California progressives have vowed to strengthen the “resistance” against Trump and his administration.

On Sunday, thousands of progressives throughout the nation gathered to “resist” Trump on repealing the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), among other policies, with local meetings and rallies sponsored by MoveOn.org and promoted by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

In Santa Monica, MoveOn.org sponsored a gathering at a local church to help volunteers organize rallies and rail against Republicans on immigration and ObamaCare.

Security at the inauguration will be extremely tight in order to keep the estimated million attendees safe and secure from protests that have the potential to turn violent.

Oh I'm so happy they're going to the Inauguration!! Trump will be so pleased and honored to have them there. I hope everything goes well for them in DC with their arrangements and they have a wonderful time at the events!! The Inaugural Committee has worked really hard to make everything as special and enjoyable as possible.

How fun Judy. :) It will be nice to have the team together and it will be the biggest and the best. Should be a most memorable few days starting tomorrow and continuing Friday and Saturday as Donald Trump becomes our President.

Pray for all to go well.

Oh yes!!! It must all go well and everyone be safe and have a wonderful time at the events if you're there or watching them home as I will be doing, loving every minute of this wonderful occasion. I've never been this excited about an Inauguration before. I've always enjoyed them, but this one has so much meaning to our country this time.

Oh that's right Jean!! You're a California Girl!! You know I realize it's probably alot different now but hopefully not too much, but when I was a kid I watched all the Beach movies, with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon, and Sunset Strip and Route 66. To this day that is still my image of California. My first album I ever bought was the Mamas and Pappas and my favorite song was California Dreamin' and of course my favorite band was the Beach Boys. I'm so thrilled the Beach Boys will be at the Inauguration.

I watched those too Judy. Still do when I see them. My music choice was more easy listening. :). I liked to stack the record player with Jim Reeves, Doris Day, Johnny Mathis, Dean Martin, Eddy Arnold, Patty Page, some great bands. And Elvis.:)

Going down memory lane eh? Know well everyone you both mention. Saw Johnny Mathis many years ago at the Greek Theatre and about 4 yrs ago in this area, was good to hear him still sing so well. Needless to say the crowd was older looking than when we first saw him. ha!

Oh my gosh, I loved Dean Martin and Elvis, saw Elvis live just a couple of months before he died. And my sister and I wouldn't miss a Doris Day movie. Remember paper dolls? One of my first was one of Patty Page. Those were grand times!! My Dad loved Eddy Arnold and Perry Como.

Forgot, saw Elvis also, Judy, in Las Vegas not long before he died. Went with my mother who was a huge fan of his and she was sad to see how he didn't perform too well but he wasn't very well it turned out. Paper dolls were HUGE for us weren't they? I have some still unplayed with as sort of a collector's item. More innocent days those were.

Oh Jean, they were such wonderful days.
