Immigration Activists Deliver Taco Bowls to GOP Lawmakers Supporting Donald Trump

    by ALEX SWOYER

    Washington, DC

As presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump met with GOP leaders on Capitol Hill, immigration activists who oppose Trump delivered taco bowls to lawmakers who support the billionaire.

The delivery mocked Trump’s Cinco de Mayo tweet of him with taco bowl earlier this month.

According to The Hill, the groups involved were “America’s Voice, Latino Victory Project, United We Dream and United Farm Workers.”

The Hill also reports the members of Congress who received taco bowls on Thursday were:

Sens. Richard Burr (N.C.), Rob Portman (Ohio), Pat Toomey (Penn.), John McCain (Ariz.), Roy Blunt (Mo.), Kelly Ayotte (N.H.), Chuck Grassley (Iowa), Ron Johnson (Wis.) and Mark Kirk (Ill.), all of whom face reelection races in the fall.

They were also sent to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), Majority Whip John Cornyn (Texas) and Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas), Cory Gardner (Colo.) and Roger Wicker (Miss).

On the House side, the taco bowls went to Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Reps. Joe Heck (Nev.), David Valadao (Calif.), Jeff Denham (Calif.), and Mike Coffman (Colo.).

Give me a break. This just goes to show how ignorant these people are. I grew up in California and until the 80's nobody celebrated Cinco de Mayo. We had our Greek Festivals, our Italian Festivals our Portuguese Festivals our Chinese New Year our Mexican Fiesta's, etc. but nobody celebrated Cinco de Mayo, not here and not in Mexico. The fact is that Cinco de Mayo is an Mexican American holiday started in California. Like most American holidays it was promoted largely to make money for businesses, this time liquor companies.

Since Cinco de Mayo as well as taco bowls represent the American Mexicans and not Mexico and I have never heard Trump saying anything bad about American Mexicans what difference does it make? I mean should we go after every restaurant or bar that has tequila specials for Cinco de Mayo. Should we ban tequila as being a racist drink?

Do they not want Americans to eat ethnic food on ethnic holidays? Maybe we shouldn't have ethnic holidays. I don't even know why we talk about or celebrate Cinco de Mayo or whatever it is, it has nothing to do with the United States. We should stop all this Cinco de Mayo stuff. And for the record, Mexico would have probably been far better off if the French had won!
