Letter: Killings by illegal immigrants are 'completely avoidable tragedies'

NO...it doesn’t matter what the crime rate is for "immigrants," contrary to the attempt by your USA Today columnist to allay the concerns of US citizens. Using the common liberal apologists’ false conflation of legal immigrants and illegal aliens, and the euphemism "undocumented immigrants" to describe lawbreaking aliens, he tries to reassure us that their incarceration rate is only .5 percent.

Of course, to reach this number, he has to eliminate those incarcerated only for immigration violations. The fact that these are crimes seems not to impress him. But why stop there? He could improve his numbers even more by eliminating those incarcerated for theft, rape, or murder!

All this after he has admitted the near impossibility of even determining how many crimes are committed by legal, illegal, or native-born citizens. The author is honest enough to quote Jessica Vaughan of the Center for Immigration Studies that this doesn’t matter to the parents of Kate Steinle.
But he still continues his attempt to diminish this fact:
Regardless of the actual crime rate, there are illegal aliens stealing, raping, and murdering, none of which would have occurred had they not sneaked in illegally. Kate Steinle, Mollie Tibbetts, and many others would still be alive. These were completely avoidable tragedies, had we closed our borders.
The same goes for those tortured and murdered by MS-13 illegal aliens, despite the author’s final six paragraphs decrying President Trump’s frequent reminder of that unalienable fact.
