Three of the top 10 sanctuary cities with the highest crime are represented in Washington by the leading proponents of protecting illegal immigrants, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, according to a new report.
The report, based on community crime statistics gathered by the Immigration Reform Law Institute, said San Francisco, New York City, and Minneapolis are one, two, and three on its new “List of Shame.”
Using Freedom of Information Act requests, the group that advocates for tougher immigration controls tabulated “particularly egregious crimes” since the communities adopted sanctuary policies.
Several cities, such as San Francisco, home to Pelosi, have seen several crimes by illegal immigrants sought by Immigration and Customs Enforcement but refused access under sanctuary policies. The murder of Kate Steinle in 2015 on a San Francisco pier by a migrant repeatedly deported gave rise to President Trump’s top 2016 presidential platform.
Recently the surge in crimes by illegal immigrants in another sanctuary community, Montgomery County, Maryland, have made headlines inside the Beltway.
The communities on the IRLI list are:
1. San Francisco, California.
2. New York City, New York.
3. Minneapolis, Minnesota.
4. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
5. Seattle, Washington.
6. Chicago, Illinois.
7. TIE: Montgomery County, Maryland and Fairfax County, Virginia.
8. Prince George’s County, Maryland.
9. Boston, Massachusetts.
10. Santa Clara County, California.
“Sanctuary policies are absolute poison for America,” said Dale L. Wilcox, executive director and general counsel of IRLI. “They are unconstitutional — a violation of the Supremacy Clause — and threaten the integrity of our republic. More importantly, sanctuary policies bring violent crime and murder that is entirely preventable.”
Trump has fought to curb sanctuary policies. ICE officials have long claimed that having access to criminal illegal immigrants in jails is safer for them than hunting them down once they have been released.
