Anti-Trump Protest Planned For Saturday Ahead Of Phoenix Rally

A group of community organizations and local lawmakers were at the state capitol Friday speaking out against presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. Many there said the politician is not welcome in Arizona.

The group announced what they’re calling "a peaceful protest" in Encanto Park before Trump’s Saturday afternoon rally at the state fairgrounds.

Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Gallardo said Trump’s proposed policies like banning Muslims from entering the country bring Arizona back to the divisive days of Senate Bill 1070, which allowed local law enforcement to detain someone if there was suspicion that they were in the country illegally.

"Those dark days that we had seen for so long that are now starting to go away, he brings that back," said Gallardo.

Officials with the coalition Somos America, who organized today’s meeting, say they don’t plan on sending anyone inside Trump’s rally on Saturday. Instead, volunteers will be registering people to vote.

Supporters of Donald Trump are waiting to see the presumptive Republican presidential nominee at a Phoenix arena despite sweltering temperatures.
Phoenix fire officials say four people were treated for heat exhaustion Saturday, just a few hours before Trump is scheduled to speak at 4 p.m.
They were taken to a medical building near the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The temperature is currently 108 degrees but could rise to as high as 111, according to the National Weather Service.
Volunteers are handing out water donated by Trump’s campaign as attendees walk in.

I haven't heard anything about the protesters yet.
