Maddow: ‘Absolutely’ possible Trump didn’t know about Russia hacking

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow acknowledged that President Trump's campaign may have had no knowledge of Russia's efforts to meddle in the 2016 election.

Asked in a Rolling Stone interview if she thought it is possible that the Trump campaign was clueless about Russian hacking during the campaign, Maddow said it was "absolutely" possible.

"I mean, Russia clearly did this attack, and there's lots of circumstantial evidence that points at lots of unexplained and surreptitious contact between Trump people and Russian people at the time that was happening," she said. "But circumstantial evidence is circumstantial evidence. This is a serious thing that needs to be chased." down to the end."

Maddow has covered the controversies surrounding federal investigations into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia more than any other cable news host and has dedicated 53 percent of her show's coverage to Russia-related topics, according to an April analysis by The Intercept.

But Maddow told Rolling Stone that she was "not keeping it alive for its own sake," saying that the potential severity of the case presented the potential for a real "national crisis."

"If this presidency is knowingly the product of a foreign-intelligence operation, that's not [Health and Human Services Secretary] Tom Price trading stocks that he was also affecting the price of as a public official, you know?" she said. "That is a full-stop national crisis."

Rachel, you have no idea in the world who did the hacking. No idea at all just like the rest of it. You've not seen an official report, you've not seen the data, you probably wouldn't understand it if you did, you don't know if it's been altered, tampered with, fabricated or otherwise. You don't know squat about it.

Furthermore, that's so nice to say that Trump associates may have colluded without knowing they were colluding with Russians. Colluding to do what? Win the election? That is what campaign people do, try to win an election by getting American votes on election day at the polls. Trump associates didn't collude with Russians to interfere in the 2016 election. Period.

Back to this "hacking" thing. It wasn't that long ago that you battled with the officials in Flint and the EPA because they told the people of Flint that their water was clean and safe to drink when it wasn't. Remember that? The federal government told these people regarding a life and death situation that it was safe when it clearly was not safe.

But now when Trump and his people are the victims, you believe everything coming out of the mouths of the same government who lied to the people in Flint, Michigan about their drinking water. It's the same Obamaites and Hillary Shrills who lied to the people in Flint, Michigan about their water supply who have lied to the people of the United States about their 2016 election because Hillary lost the election.

Trump people in this administration aren't lying to the people about the 2016 election, it's Obama people in this administration who haven't been moved out yet who are lying to the people of the United States about the Russians and the 2016 election to disrupt and destroy this Presidency. It's a Witch Hunt over Sour Grapes.

Remember that cute thing you did with the heads on the board and you would "poof" them when they dropped out of the running during the primary? You should make another one for all the conspiracy theories on the Russians and "poof" them when they fizzle. There is no evidence that Russia hacked the DNC, or John Podesta's emails. There is no evidence that anyone in the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians. There's no evidence that Trump or anyone else obstructed justice. You should go through the New York Times, the Washington Post and CNN and draw up something to represent each fake news leak. You'll have at lest 16 or 17, about the same as the number of Republican primary candidates. Then you can disprove each one and "poof" them when you have. It'll be fun for your viewers. They may not like your politics, but they'll love your New Poof Board.
