WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:

Reinstate Military Tuition Assistance (TA) and block the Armed Service Branches from any further suspension of TA.

Reinstate Military Tuition Assistance and block the Armed Service Branches from any further suspension of Tuition Assistance. This action should be accomplished by Executive Order as Commander in Chief.

In spite of our countries current economic situation and the polarizing politics involved, Service Member benefits such as Tuition Assitance should not be compromised as a result. Access to Higher Education is important to Service Members as it allows for career and professional advancement.

Tuition assistance to end for military, but not for illegal aliens

Across the board budget cuts, a/k/a sequestration, has forced the Army, Marine Corps and Air Force to halt their tuition assistance programs which are important to America's warriors, according to Pentagon Press Secretary George Little on Tuesday. However, this week the state of Colorado announced it was extending in-state tuition to illegal aliens, which amounts to thousands of dollars per student.

Little echoed others in the Obama administration who blame “sequestration” that kicked in March 1, 2013, dictating spending cuts that Pentagon officials repeatedly warned Americans would harm the nation’s military readiness.

“Let me be clear: we’re here because of sequestration,” Little said. “If sequestration were averted, we may be facing a different set of choices on these and other programs.”

In states such as Massachusetts and California, illegal aliens are being given tuition assistance, while the U.S. government is cutting tuition assistance to service members returning from the battlefield.

"The Commander in Chief is using budget cuts and sequester as an excuse to cause financial pain to as many Americans as possible. It’s yet another Obama crisis that is completely manufactured," claims former U.S. Marine, now a police officer, Lawrence Brown.

"In his goal of blaming the GOP, Obama supports states like Colorado, California, and Massachusetts who are lowering tuition for illegal aliens and giving the bill to taxpayers, and taking away our military's tuition assistance," Brown said.

"When an illegal alien is granted in-state tuition and admission to a state university, he or she is directly competing with American students for that educational slot. This competition is unfairly biased against American students in other states who must pay out-of-state tuition to attend the university, while the illegal alien student is given in-state tuition preference," according to Colorado Alliance for Immigration Reform.

"The president doesn’t care if he hurts American citizens including the military who are at the top of his list of who will suffer the most," said political strategist Mike Baker. "Fox News Channel's Judge Andrew Napolitano claims Obama's actions -- to intentionally hurt American citizens -- is an impeachable offense. Yet the GOP has failed to blow the whistle."

The Washington Times also reported that a parks administrator was ordered by his superiors in an email to not reduce the pain of sequester when reallocating where the cuts would be made.

"If you go to the Washington Times you can see the email from higher-ups that informs the government department to make the Sequester as painful as possible," said Baker.

"Obama wants voters to believe that the budget must never be cut. This is one of his political tricks to prove he is right. For instance, the cancellation of the White House tours disappointed so many school children. The Commander in Chief even tried to cut children's vaccination programs," Baker said.

Air Force joins other military branches in suspending college tuition assistance program

Article by: MICHAEL BIESECKER , Associated Press
    Updated: March 12, 2013 - 12:57 PM

RALEIGH, N.C. - The U.S. Air Force joined other military branches Tuesday in suspending tuition assistance that thousands of active-duty service members rely on to pay for college classes.

Air Force spokeswoman Lt. Col. Laurel Tingley said airmen were notified by email that new applications for tuition assistance won't be accepted because of the $85 billion in automatic federal spending cuts that went into effect March 1.

The U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard quietly suspended their assistance programs last week. A decision by the U.S. Navy is pending.

The tuition assistance programs pay up to $250 per semester hour for active duty personnel, or as much as $4,500 per year. Payments already approved under the program will still be paid, but the changes are expected to leave military personnel scrambling to figure out how to pay for classes for the summer and fall semesters.

"This suspension is necessary given the significant budget execution challenges caused by the combined effects of a possible year-long continuing resolution and sequestration," said Army spokesman Troy A. Rolan Sr. "The Army understands the impacts of this action and will re-evaluate should the budgetary situation improve."

Service members may still qualify for aid under the G.I. Bill, which has so far not been affected.

U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released a letter Tuesday urging Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to find another place to cut.

"I believe that denying educational opportunities to our service members is the wrong way to find savings, and I fear this decision will inhibit the Air Force, Army and Marine Corps from developing the highly skilled forces they need to succeed in this current environment," said Hagan (D-North Carolina). "Completely suspending this program, rather than simply reducing its funding by an amount proportionate to the cuts mandated by sequestration, is an alarming decision."
