Marco Rubio Changes Amnesty Pitch on Mark Levin Show (1/23)

Senator Rubio Defines His Immigration Principles on "The Mark Levin Show*" - YouTube

**Note, at 7:00 minutes in Rubio states that none of the "other stuff about getting in line and applying" (i.e., amnesty) happens until the "workplace security component, visa tracking and some level of significant operational control of the border are in place," these "security components" must be "certified" and in place "before the other stuff happens."

This seems to be contradictory from what he has said in other outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, which states this:

"Unlike many Republicans, Mr. Rubio doesn't say that improved enforcement is a precondition for immigration reform. Such reform would, by his argument, ensure that fewer people will need or want to risk an arduous border crossing."

    And see this report:

There are really only two minor differences between Obama and Rubio on immigration. First, Obama has set a 13-year process for granting citizenship to these in the country illegally today, while Rubio has not specified how many years they should wait. Second, Obama wants one comprehensive bill covering all of the above items, while Rubio would prefer a series of smaller bills.

Not that Rubio is wedded to even that idea. "It's not a line in the sand for me," Rubio told the Wall Street Journal about his preference for piecemeal bills.

Bottom line: it seems Rubio changes his amnesty pitch depending on who he is talking to. On Mark Levin's show, he talked about enforcement first, while on other outlets he is open to all-at-once comprehensive reform. But overall his amnesty outline is similar to Bush's and Obama's, which is why the White House has praised Rubio on this.

Here is the contact link to Mark Levin's show. Please email him to let him know Rubio's amnesty plan is similar to past amnesty proposals:

Thank you for the heads up. I sent them this....

    Air time Request:

    Mr. Levin,

Thank you for all you do to educate the American public. I request a few minutes of your air time to rebut Marco Rubio's plans to radically change American politics via a mass amnesty for illegal aliens.

Please let me know if I may bring the perspective representative of the true American majority to your show in opposition to Rubio's amnesty plans.

    Sincerely,

    William Gheen

Thank you. Here is Mark Levin's phone number as well, if needed:

    Phone: 1-877- 381- 3811
    (Mon. - Fri. 6pm to 9pm ET)

Levin had previously criticized Rubio's amnesty plan, but after Rubio talked about "triggers" and the workplace and border enforcement measures being "certified" before the other measures (i.e., amnesty), Levin said after the interview that he was "extremely excited" about this plan by Rubio.

From what I can tell at least, Rubio did not stress or even mention "triggers" and "certification before amnesty" provisions previously with other media -- in fact, quite the opposite as I have outlined above.
And of course, there would be plenty of problems with these so-called "triggers" etc. and we all know the Democrats will not agree to any solid, really enforceable triggers.

Mark Levin has been a strong anti-amnesty host and I hope he is not fooled by Rubio's talking points. I wish Levin had asked Rubio about why the Obama administration, Mother Jones magazine, and other liberal outlets have praised Rubio's plan.

It is clear that Rubio is trying to mute conservative talk radio regarding amnesty, as he has appeared on other shows with anti-amnesty hosts such as Laura Ingraham.
