Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney Wants State Troopers to Arrest Illegals


Mitt Romney wants the feds to OK his plan for Massachusetts state police officers to have the authority to arrest illegal immigrants solely on their immigration status. "It's one more thing you can do to make this a less attractive place for illegal aliens to come to work," the Massachusetts governor said.
"I think that's a good thing," said Representative Marie J. Parente, a Milford Democrat whose community has enacted licensing regulations that make it more difficult for undocumented immigrants to settle there.
"We need to do something," Parente told the Boston Globe. "I think that will be a message, that the state of Massachusetts welcomes you if you're within the law."

If this becomes law, then other states need to adopt at the state level quickly. If the majority (37 states needed as in Rove vs Wade), could this become the law of the land?

This is a law. The trouble is, it is voluntary. Likely Romney is applying for inclusion in the ICE training under 287(g). Under this plan officers are sent for specialized training in immigration law. They don't become immigration officers, but are authorized to make judgements about the status of those persons encountered in the normal course of police work. They also have access to ICE data and procedures. Any municipality can apply on behalf of their police force.

The law arose as a result of recommendations of the 9/11 Commission reflecting the fact that several of the plane hijackers had been passed over with bad documents prior to the attacks.

You can tell an advocate for illegals from those that genuinely represent immigrants by their opposition to the application of this training. Abuses are going to occur without proper training in complex regulations. Any municipality that isn't participating in 287(g) is expressing their willingness to repeat the mistakes prior to 9/11 and endanger all Americans.

Ask your local police and council about 287(g).
