Mixed feelings for Haitians illegally in U.S.

Mixed feelings for Haitians illegally in U.S.: 'It's like joy and sorrow at the same time'

    Monday, January 18, 2010; A06

When a Haitian woman from Takoma Park received a call from a friend telling her that Haitians who have been living in the United States illegally will be allowed to stay for the next 18 months, the woman dropped the phone.

"I screamed. I got on my knees. And I cried, 'Lord, thank you, thank you, thank you,' " recalled the woman, whose middle name is Stephanie. "Nine years I have been waiting for this."

But for Stephanie, 36, who spoke on the condition that only her middle name be used because she does not want acquaintances to know she has been an illegal immigrant, it was bittersweet.

The powerful earthquake that prompted the Obama administration to extend Haitians "temporary protected status" flattened the house in Port-au-Prince where Stephanie grew up, leaving two brothers and their children homeless. Two other brothers are still unaccounted for.

"I said, 'Lord, all those people had to lose their lives so that you can deliver me from my hardship?' It's like joy and sorrow at the same time," she said.

That's arrogance for ya. What "hardship" are you speaking of Stephani? You're not suffering in Haiti, you've been sitting pretty in the USA for 9 years!

She'd better get deported when the 18 months are up.

Why are these people also being given Work Visas? Is that information correct? Why can't they be "protected" at ICE dention facilities until their 18 months of TPS expires?

Yes it is correct. Why? Because your government hates you.

That is what I want to know. Then they will know where they are when it is time to go home.

Obviously she has not been waiting for TPS for 9 years, she has been waiting for amnesty, and it looks like Obama gave it to her.

I have to laugh at this because here she is thanking the Lord for this gift. But if she were really a good Christian she would get on the first plane to Haiti to help her fellow countrymen rebuild the country.

Line up Stephanie and give us your fingerprints. No more shadows for you. You have to line up to get the TPS. The woman has been waiting for an earthquake to hit her homeland? Very strange logic.

9 years she's been waiting on amnesty.

Heard this morning that about 50,000 of the dead have been buried, and this selfish lower form of life is only looking out for herself while she has two brothers still missing. Greed is good in her mind, and crap with the people that lost their lives or are dying every day.
