Mayor of Phoenix Unleashes on Donald Trump Ahead of His Visit: ‘Ignorant, Deplorable and Racist’

The mayor of Phoenix unleashed on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump Thursday, blasting the real-estate mogul as as “deplorable” and “racist.”

The statement from Mayor Greg Stanton came ahead of an event Trump is scheduled to hold in the Arizona city.

“Phoenix is an incredibly diverse and welcoming city — and I’m proud of that,” Stanton said in a statement. “Donald Trump’s ignorant, deplorable and racist rhetoric does not represent our values, and I could not disagree with him more.”

Stanton, however, said that Trump had a “right under the First Amendment to make absurd and embarrassing statements” and that the City of Phoenix “will not attempt to censor political speech based on content.”

“The Convention Center is a public facility and open to everyone willing to pay for it — including Mr. Trump,” the mayor said.

“I hope that during Mr. Trump’s time here he is able to learn some things.”

Stanton added, “I hope that during Mr. Trump’s time here he is able to learn some things: That being born in another country does not make one a criminal, immigration has made our city and county stronger and in Phoenix our diversity is strength.”
Trump has stirred controversy in recent weeks for his unfiltered, blunt comments on illegal immigration. The GOP candidate’s outspoken attitude toward the subject has spurred a national debate on immigration policy.

When reached Thursday night, a Trump spokesperson declined to comment.

He seems well educated, I can't believe he doesn't know the difference between a race and an ethnicity.

But then he one of those Northeast Democrats that want to spread the liberal BS. They should have protected the ballot boxes from illegal alien voters in the 2012 election. Perhaps he is just in the bag with Mexico.

I think when Trump sets himself off as neither democrat or republican, I may support him. If Mayor Stanton thinks he can out brass the brassy Trump, he likely isn't qualified to try.

This hateful tirade from the mayor of Phoenix against Donald Trump backfires. If he was hoping to discredit Donald Trump he failed. All the mayor accomplished was showing the whole world his own arrogant biased loathsome character. I wonder how the citizens of Phoenix feel about the lost business and tourism resulting from your his rant against Donald Trumps impending visit? Stanton hurts Phoenix tourism, business and standing in this country. He needs removed. Phoenix deserves better representation.

Donald Trump is going to this rally with Sheriff Joe Arpaio so of course the liberal socialists that run Phoenix are going to be angry about it along with their RINO allies John McCain and Jeff Flake!
