    Oh How I Wish....

Oh how I wish that this generation could regenerate even a little bit of that self sacrificing, life loving, patriotic fervor that my fathers generation lived with. A time when little things meant a lot...July 4th, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving and Friday nights at the drive-in theater. Saving enough money to buy our first home, giving a little more of ourselves to help some little kid buy the baseball uniform that his parents couldn't afford and not expecting a penny in return. A time when we looked out for our neighbors and weren't afraid to get our hands dirty and get the job done. When we ALL had the guts, to stand up for our country and for others who couldn't stand up for themselves. Will any of these things survive after the baby boomer generation is gone? Oh, how I wish so...
...I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid...

I would hope for that too TexasBorn. With the difficult economic times we may be facing, there may be a small return to some of the sacrifices and appreciations of the greatest generation and some of their children. The stories of the gifts of an orange, and small stocking gifts, or a memorable doll or toy, and the pleasure of conversation and relationships and sacrifice, now replaced too often with cell phones, computers, texting, electronic games toys, etc. There has been less and less human interaction and caring, even within families. Thoughts of one's self and one's needs override care and healthy function for the family as a whole in too many lives today.

Sacrifice will come as a shock to many, especially young people, in a world of fast food, disposable items, and drive through mentality. More will have to work to gain something, instead of just expecting it to be given.

    Ephesians 4:32
    Matthew 19:26
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

These are my thoughts also. This may be one of many "silver linings" we get out of this mess.

I agree. Not to mention that some of those disposable items are babies. Babies who survived abortion. We have become the microwave generation not the slow cookers. The "I want it NOW and I want as MUCH as I want NOW" is the mindset of the McDonalds generation. We bought into idea's like "you are worth it", "have it your way", "play now pay later", "the perp is the victim", the "anti-hero is who you route for". When our country starting listening to talk shows and hosts that stood with the perpetrator making excuses for them, (they were abused as children) when are advertising companies start blatantly patronize the greed in the human heart, that was the beginning of the real downfall in this country. I can remember when they advertised the product based on the merit of the product not how it was SATISFY every need until next week. LOL

    OK OK I'm old. LOL

My fear is many of these kids raised with an emphasis on high self esteem will simply continue to think that the world owes them. I am of the belief that humility is more important than self esteem. My fear is too many people today would gladly trade in liberty and freedom for instant gratification. Many have never had to seriously struggle or sacrifice, I am not certain they even know how. I think we are getting a sneak preview in the presidential race, our young people are looking for a savior who will take from the rich and give it to them, the egotistical masses hoping to avoid hard work, yet want to live like kings and queens.

Some are to be sure. I will say our son isn't buying it. He liked Ron Paul but has switched to McCain/Palin when he really started seeing what the alternative was. He's no dummy and he has a lot of influence around his peers. He argues facts not emotion.

    It WONT HAPPEN

Our Government has been HiJacked by lobbying and special interest groups. Most veryone knows or at least can sense this as betrayal after betrayal by our government pile up. The road to globalization is a slow and torturous one and soon we will be on level with the 3rd world (but paying superpower taxes still)

Quite a nausiating thing to watch happen right in front of us...

My daughter who turns 18 one day after the election (and boy is she mad about that) is not as those described previously by me, however, both of her brothers certainly have the potential to be exactly as described.

Gogo, bravo to you. My 16 year old daughter now has learned to think on her own..not be brainwashed by the garbage our schools and videos spew out daily. She now understands appearances are cheap and offer nothing without substance. She was once an Obama supporter. No longer. Proud of her.
