MEDIA FAIL: OBAMA APPROVAL PLUMMETS TO 37%

The President's disapproval rating is up to 53%. There is no good news in this poll for anyone, but if past is prologue, this is the number the media will pretend does not exist as they attempt to manufacture a reality in which only the GOP is in trouble over the shutdown.

While the poll shows that 62% blame the GOP for the shutdown and "[a]bout half said Obama or the Democrats in Congress bear much responsibility," here are other important numbers the media will ignore in this poll:
Both Republican House Speaker John Boehner and Democrat Senate Majority Leader share a dismal 18% favorability rating.
A full 52% of those polled believe, "Obama is not doing enough to cooperate with Republicans to end the shutdown; 63 percent say Republicans aren't doing enough to cooperate with him."
Obviously, there is a pox on both houses happening here, but the headline of this poll from the AP and other publications distributing it, including the Washington Post, is "GOP Gets the Blame In Shutdown."
As for the number showing the public blaming the GOP 2-to-1 over Democrats, that is way outside what other polls released as recently as Monday show. While the GOP are receiving most of the blame, other polls show the spread between Republicans and Democrats is in single digits.
Republicans shouldn’t dismiss the number in this poll. It could be an outlier, or a trend. The media have been shamelessly lying and carrying Obama's water in this debate, and it is possible that the media's propaganda is having an effect.

The AP wrote an article entitled Poll: GOP gets the blame in shutdown and started the article telling us how the evil Republicans are getting the blame for the shutdown:

Americans are holding Republicans primarily responsible for the partial government shutdown as public esteem sinks for all players in the impasse, President Barack Obama among them, according to a new poll. It’s a struggle with no heroes. …

Overall, 62 percent mainly blamed Republicans for the shutdown. About half said Obama or the Democrats in Congress bear much responsibility.

As we read down we learn that they Tea Party is far larger than the Democrats are making it sound with their demonizations:

The poll found that the tea party is more than a gang of malcontents in the political landscape, as its supporters in Congress have been portrayed by Democrats. Rather, it’s a sizable — and divisive — force among Republicans. More than 4 in 10 Republicans identified with the tea party and were more apt than other Republicans to insist that their leaders hold firm in the standoff over reopening government and avoiding a default of the nation’s debt in coming weeks.

Hello, you needed a poll to tell you that after 2010? Geez.

And then about 7 paragraphs down they drop this bombshell:

Most Americans disapprove of the way Obama is handling his job, the poll suggests, with 53 percent unhappy with his performance and 37 percent approving of it. Congress is scraping rock bottom, with a ghastly approval rating of 5 percent.

Wow. I’m sure the media will have a field day with this one! They’ll be announcing it from the rooftops! And I’m sure Wolf Blitzer will be announcing this at the top of every news segment today just like he did in 2006 when Bush hit 36% (h/t: Rush Limbaugh):

Ronald Reagan also said "As government expands liberty contracts." Have that saying posted on my refrig. He also was a uniter, not a divider which is what we have now.

Imo with such low approval numbers for the current president the people are more informed than the lamestream media choses to report which is a good sign.

"How did you know we were winning this?" He had just seen the AP story with Obama's approval rating at 37%.

Grab sound bite number two. Barack Obama's approval rating at 37%. That fact is in an AP story. Would you like to hear the headline of that AP story? I have it right here my formerly nicotine-stained fingers. "Poll: GOP Gets The Blame In Shutdown." And then if you read the story, you find out that as an incidental item, the president of the United States' approval number is at 37%.

This is before that insulting, juvenile, petulant, spoiled-rotten little kid press conference from yesterday, about which there was not one question asked about Obamacare and its rollout. Not one question in that presser yesterday. We have also learned that the Park Service and Obama okayed a pro-amnesty immigration reform rally on the National Mall that is closed to everybody else, including World War II vets. Nancy Pelosi and a number of Democrats, who are, I think, in a time warp, a bunch of them went over there and got arrested as though this is still the 1960s. John Lewis got arrested.

Charlie Rangel got arrested, as though it's some badge of honor to get arrested. These people are totally tone-deaf.

The president's at 37%. The shutdown is going on. Now we learn that five military families were insulted profoundly with the way the deaths of their service member relatives were treated. Folks, it is obvious that this administration is acting purposely to inconvenience and to harm people it considers its political enemies. Why in the world, in the middle of this, when you're losing, why call that press conference yesterday and why go out there and keep saying, "I'm willing to negotiate" and this sort of thing, why do that on the same day that you are permitting -- I mean, you talk about a thumb in the eye.

You talk about almost being spat upon to allow the closed -- because of the shutdown -- National Mall to open up for a pro-amnesty immigration rally. The people allowed in there were illegal. They were not American citizens.

Meanwhile, outside the fences, not permitted in, American citizens, World War II vets and their families are not allowed to go to the World War II Memorial. And the Democrats and the media and the president somehow think that this is adding up to their benefit? Here's Pelosi yesterday. Grab sound bite 13. This is Pelosi yesterday on the National Mall during a rally in favor of amnesty, comprehensive immigration reform.

PELOSI: I want to join my colleague, uh, uh, who, uh -- thank the president for enabling us to gather here and also thank the president that the veterans were able to gather at the World War II Memorial.

RUSH: They weren't! They weren't. It was shut down. They were not able to. The rollout of Obamacare continues to be an absolute disaster. Even the Washington Post and CBS News are now writing and broadcasting what a debacle the rollout of Obamacare is and that website. I've got an open letter that a 26-year-old female grad student from the University of Michigan wrote about how Obamacare has destroyed her future and the future of everybody her age.

Meanwhile, if you are a conservative media guy inside the Beltway you're convinced that Obama's winning everything. If you're a conservative media guy inside the Beltway and you're subjected to that narrative each and every day, you think the Republicans are really getting shellacked. You think they're taking it on the chin. You think, as John Podhoretz writes in the New York Post today, Republicans are committing suicide. It's the exact opposite. It's the exact opposite of what's happening outside the Beltway.

I want to go back, ladies and gentlemen. I want to go back to March 13th of 2006. This is from our all-time top five favorite audio sound bites. Wolf Blitzer, barely able to contain himself, March 13, 2006, CNN, The Situation Room, his show. Unable to contain himself. George W. Bush's approval rating had just hit 36%.

RUSH: None of those repeated. All of that was said in a three-hour stretch. Wolf Blitzer on March 13th, 2006, when Bush's approval number hit 36%.

Today Barack Obama's approve number's at 37%, and they are not talking about it.

The AP story in which that poll result is announced has the following headline: "Poll: GOP Gets The Blame In Shutdown." They have a poll that shows that 71% of the American people are blaming the Republicans for the shutdown. In the same poll, 50% are blaming the Democrats for something, but the media says, "Look, 20% spread, boy, the Republicans are really taking it on the chin for the government shutdown." But the poll does not say people are upset with the shutdown.

But that's not the point. The point is, once again, there is no media, there is no news. This is the Democrat Party with activists disguised as journalists. Thirty-seven percent approval for The Messiah, "Barack Hussein Obama! Mmm! Mmm! Mmm!" And it's not some outlier poll. You have to read over halfway down into that story to learn that. I haven't seen it anywhere else. It's been on AP, but have you seen anybody else pick that up? It's just classic.

And this is Ron Fournier writing for the AP, March 10th, 2006. " More and more people, particularly Republicans, disapprove of President Bush's performance, question his character and no longer consider him a strong leader against terrorism, according to an AP-Ipsos poll documenting one of the bleakest points of his presidency." That's how AP reported Bush at 37% back in 2006.

That was after three years, maybe even six years, if you want to really add 'em all up. Let's just say three, when the Iraq war started. That was after three years of a daily, relentless pounding of Bush by the Drive-By Media.

Daily characterizations of Bush as an idiot, as incompetent, as irresponsible, as stupid, as a buffoon. We were heading into a recession. It took 'em three years to get Bush down to 37%. And when they got to 37%, they celebrated.

Here's more from Ron Fournier back on March 10th of 2006. "The poll suggests that most Americans wonder whether Bush is up to the job. The survey, conducted Monday through Wednesday of 1,000 people, found that just 37 percent approve of his overall performance.

That is the lowest of his presidency. ...

Republican Party leaders said the survey explains why GOP lawmakers are rushing to distance themselves from Bush on a range of issues -- port security, immigration, spending, warrantless eavesdropping and trade, for example."

Those were the issues that the Republican Party, it was said by AP, was running away from George W. Bush: port security, immigration, spending, warrantless eavesdropping, which can't even hold a candle to what Obama has been doing on any of those issues. And then Fournier said, "Personally, far fewer Americans consider Bush likable, honest, strong and dependable than they did just after his re-election campaign." The headline was: "Bush's Approval Rating Falls to New Low." Obama's at 37% today in an AP poll, and the headline is: "GOP Blamed for Shutdown." It's journalistic malpractice, except it's not because it's not journalism. It's not what we're even talking about here.

A senior White House official told the Wall Street Journal that the administration doesn't really care when the shutdown ends because they're "winning" the <acronym title="Google Page Ranking">PR</acronym> fight against the GOP. While it's true that Republicans are absorbing more blame than Democrats for the dysfunction, the gap isn't especially wide, especially compared to the 1995 rout. Plus, voters are heaping opprobrium upon all parties involved in the squabble; most people are insisting on compromise -- which isn't helpful to Obama's "no negotiations" stance. The White House must ask itself if the presidentmay be"winning" in relative terms, but losing in absolute terms. A new Associated Press poll shows Congressional approval at five (!) percent, which is almost within the margin of error. The American people, needless to say, are disgusted by the spectacle playing out on Capitol Hill. Despite his efforts to play the role of an above-the-fray, frustrated bystander, Obama is also taking a hit from this mess. As well he should. Between his atrocious leadership on shutdown talks, which he's single-handedly blocked, and the ongoing Obamacare meltdown, Obama's overall job approval has sunk to 37 percent. For perspective, as he prepared to leave office in January of 2009, President Bush's approval rating was 34 percent. This ain't pretty:

Indeed, anyone making headlines in the dispute has earned poor marks for his or her trouble, whether it's Democrat Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader, or Republican John Boehner, the House speaker, both with a favorability rating of 18 percent.

Nobody is covering themselves in glory here; the ebbing tide of public opinion sinks all ships. Other notable findings from the poll:

- "Sixty-eight percent said the shutdown is a major problem for the country, including majorities of Republicans (58 percent), Democrats (82 percent) and independents (57 percent)." - "Fifty-two percent said Obama is not doing enough to cooperate with Republicans to end the shutdown; 63 percent say Republicans aren't doing enough to cooperate with him." - Just three in ten Americans support raising the debt ceiling, which is politically problematic for the president. A recent Bloomberg survey showed that a substantial majority opposes doing so in the "clean" fashion Obama demands. - More than 80 percent of Americans have felt no effects from shutdown.

The first two bullet points aren't surprising. Nine days in, people oppose this shutdown and are unimpressed with the entire Beltway posse. A recent CBS News poll showed that more than three-fourths of the public want compromise to resolve the impasse. The debt ceiling stat indicates that people are profoundly and rightly concerned about our spiraling national debt, but don't necessarily understand the implications of not extending the government's borrowing authority. This combination of factors is most vexing for Obama, who is associated with debt in the public's mind, and has to convince people of why not hiking the debt limit could be cataclysmic while explaining why he won't negotiate over it. That last item may be the most important number in the whole poll. Despite the administration's appalling efforts (stay tuned for more on those later), the vast majority of Americans haven't experienced any shutdown-associated pain. At this point, the best play for Republicans may be to extract some concessions on the temporary budget -- as Boehner said yesterday, a "unilateral surrender" isn't happening -- then re-open the government with Democrats. These concessions could include a repeal of Obamacare's job-killing medical device tax and an up-or-down vote on the so-called Vitter Amendment. Or maybe something along the lines of Paul Ryan's "grand bargain" proposal, which disappointingly omits any mention of Obamacare. Some conservatives would surely see these as mere scraps and a capitulation, which is the dilemma Boehner and House leadership faces. But as I've been arguing for weeks, Republicans have some, but not much, leverage.

Here's why striking a deal and re-opening the government would benefit conservatism at this stage: We're more than a week into the supposed apocalypse of partial federal shutdown, yet eight in ten Americans are carrying on with their lives, utterly unaffected. That may be because 83 percent of the government has remained open during the shutdown. Once resolved, Republicans could subtlely point out to their constituents that when the "DC disaster" struck, very little changed beyond the egregious stunts pulled by the Obama administration. Asking the public how the shutdown impacted them personally could underscore how over-hyped rhetoric from Democrats in Washington ("terrorists!") has little bearing on the everyday reality of ordinary people. In short, this episode could make average Americans more jaded and nonchalant towards these standoffs. Since the Left tends to lean most heavily on shrill predictions of doom and fear-mongering during budget confrontations, they stand to suffer most from an insouciant electorate. Allowing this shutdown to come...and go...with minimal actual impact may help the cause of limited-government conservatism in the long run. Democrats will squeal, and Americans will roll their eyes. They've heard it all before.

That poll inspired liberals to develop a new-found love of the Rasmussen polling outfit, which has the President’s approval rating at 48% as of this writing. Liberals, historically, haven’t liked Rasmussen because, they say, his poll results are skewed in favor of Republicans. Now, of course, since Rasmussen is showing Obama polling comparatively high, they seem to have developed an affection for that polling organization.
They’re going to need that affection, because it looks like Rasmussen might be one of the better polls for the President these days.
Gallup currently has the President with a 41% approval rating. Politically speaking, that’s just a few points north of black mold.

In other words, it’s starting to look like the President’s approval really is dropping faster than Miley Cyrus’s panties in front of Terry Richardson’s camera.
“But the AP poll is an outlier,” they said.
“But Republicans are taking a beating,” they said.
By “they”, of course, we mean the various left-wing activists who believe, if not create, the popular narratives put forth by the lamestream media complex. As an example, the constant droning about that NBC/Wall Street Journal poll that showed Republicans getting a butt-whoopin’. However, that poll seems to have been tailor-made to forward liberal talking points.
The bottom line: the polls are almost as bad for the President as they are for the House Republicans. It’s really a pox on both their houses.

Bush's Final Approval Rating: 22 Percent

President Bush will leave office as one of the most unpopular departing presidents in history, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll showing Mr. Bush's final approval rating at 22 percent.

Seventy-three percent say they disapprove of the way Mr. Bush has handled his job as president over the last eight years.

Mr. Bush's final approval rating is the lowest final rating for an outgoing president since Gallup began asking about presidential approval more than 70 years ago.

The rating is far below the final ratings of recent two-term presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan, who both ended their terms with a 68 percent approval rating, according to CBS News polling.

Recent one term presidents also had higher ratings than Mr. Bush. His father George H.W. Bush had an end-of-term rating of 54 percent, while Jimmy Carter's rating was 44 percent.

Harry Truman had previously had the lowest end-of-term approval at 32 percent, as measured by Gallup.

Views of Mr. Bush's popularity are highly partisan. Only 6 percent of Democrats approve of the job he has done as president, while 57 percent of Republicans approve. Eighteen percent of independents approve.

Interestingly, Mr. Bush also has the distinction of having the highest approval rating for a president, as well as the lowest.

It seems like it was an eternity ago that Obama was doing his post-government shutdown gloating media tour, when day after day the world was bombarded with news of the GOP's record low popularity rating, paradoxically following their attempt to do what even the president is now desperate to achieve: delay Obamacare. Well, the tables have turned and now that the government shutdown is history, at least until January, and the public focus has shifted to where it should have been in the first place - namely the embarrassing ponzi scheme experiment that is Obamacare, and the epic failure surrounding its rushed rollout - it is Obama's turn to suffer a record low rating, which is precisely what happened according to a just concluded WSJ/NBC News poll.

The WSJ reports that "the popular discontent that engulfed Republicans amid the partial government shutdown has now washed over President Barack Obama, whose job approval rating has sunk to an all-time low. Americans just weeks ago heaped scorn largely on congressional Republicans over the dysfunction in Washington. But the new poll found a sharp turn against Mr. Obama, during a month in which lawmakers tiptoed up to a potential debt default and the White House fumbled the rollout of its signature health-care law.

Specifically:

Mr. Obama's job approval fell to 42%, with 51% of respondents disapproving of his performance as president. That marked a drop in his approval rating from 47% in early October and 53% at the end of 2012.

At the same time, more Americans now view Mr. Obama negatively than positively, for the first time since he emerged as a national political candidate.

In all, the poll of 800 Americans captured an extraordinarily deep and widespread public distaste for the two political parties, those parties' leaders and the state of politics in the nation's capital.

Elsewhere, it appears that Americans just have given up on the government system, whose increasing corruption and cooption by moneyed interests is now obvious to everyone:

Optimism about the U.S. system of government, at 30%, was at the lowest ebb in 40 years. Just 29% said their congressional representative deserved re-election—a new low—while nearly three-quarters said Congress was contributing to the problems in Washington instead of working to solve them.

House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, both Republicans, hit their highest negative ratings, as did Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat.

"Americans are voicing their frustration at a Congress that cannot keep the government open for business and an administration that cannot get health care open for enrollment," Mr. Hart said.

Republican pollster Bill McInturff, who conducts the survey along with Democrat Fred Yang, described the findings as a "shock wave" that showed the depth of "anger and frustration with everybody in Washington."

Frustration... and yet nobody will dare to change anything for fear of losing their precious entitlements, which are unsustainable as is and like in Detroit will end up with pennies on the dollar, or for fear of infringing on their Dancing with the Stars TV time.

Just a month ago, the President and his administration gloated as Republican support plumbed new record low depths amid the shutdown debacle. Just last week, however, amid the ongoing snafu that is the Obamacare launch, the President's approval rating itself dropped to an all-time low (though the media was oddly quiet about that). This week sees another milestone on the verge of being broken as the "glitches" - both technological and physical - continue, stocks surge, and employment stagnates five years after the end of the recession... the President's disapproval rating is within 1 point of its record high.
