Meghan McCain wants Republicans to wake up or else she just might leave the party.
The Republican daughter of Sen John McCain, who famously blogged from her father's presidential campaign bus about fashion on the campaign trail, is saying the GOP's positions on social issues are outdated and irrelevant.

'I don’t fit into the traditional Republican box that the 'wingnuts who have hijacked my party think all Republicans should,' she wrote in an opinion piece.

In an opinion piece penned for theDaily Beast, McCain notes that if the Republican Party does not adapt and start showing signs of social tolerance the GOP will not survive and that if she does not see signs of moderation on social issues she 'will consider registering as an Independent in 2016.'

The realization hit her election night as she was choking back tears over the Mitt Romney's campaign loss to President Barack Obama.

'It’s not like he’s a close friend,' she wrote. 'Looking back to last week, I think that I was mourning something else. For the last four years, writing on this website, I’ve been calling for the Republican Party to come to terms with reality and modernize. Last Tuesday, Mitt Romney lost—and he lost big. As Republicans, we lost again. I felt sad, exhausted, beaten down, and heartbroken. It was the first time that I considered that the Republican Party, which I love so much, might die.'


McCain admitted that she doesn't fit into the typical Republican model of 'wingnuts who have hijacked my party,' but feels her the GOP step away from wrong-headed social issues.

'I care more about my economy, national security, and fiscal conservatism than I do about what other woman do with their bodies,' she writes. 'It’s not my place, and I don’t believe it’s the government’s place, to make such decisions.

'I also don’t believe it’s the government’s role to tell gays and lesbians that they can’t be given the same opportunities in American just because of who they love.'

What Ms McCain fears most, it seems, is the Republican Party becoming further isolated and irrelevant.

''Times are changing,' she wrote. 'The face of America is changing and we as Republicans stand at a crossroads. Are we going to accept the changing face of America and change with it?' she writes. 'It’s possible to maintain the core values of this party and evolve when it comes to social issues. Quite frankly, I don’t see any other path to success.'

Agreed, please leave take your father and other rino's, join the Democrats because that is who you are.

Economy, national security, and fiscal conservatism, all important but without morals,values,the other three will fail.

She's a nut herself in many regards but she does have a point. The Republican party does need to step off a couple major holes they put themselves in. Specifically 2 I see which is "anti abortion" and "gay rights". These are the 2 issues I hear about with almost every friend I have who's moderate dem or independent that would likely think of voting Republican if not for the current stance. In the end you don't have to agree with abortion (I don't) but you could agree with letting someone do with their own body as they like. A number of years ago we had the same issue against birth control pills and the Republican party had to accept that, same deal. Gay rights, as well to a sense. Stop thinking your degrading someone else's life because you allow them the title of being "married". Marriage was around far longer then the Bible or Christianity/Catholicism, no one owns it. Again for some side issues I don't "like" it personally. But who am I to tell someone else how to live?

I really think if the Republican Party could "reform" and basically drop the GOP into lets say a new RNP (Republican National Party), or CNP (Conservative National Party) and change these 2 stances many moderate dems and independents would head on over. After all though isn't Conservative "less government" involvement in our lives? So isn't it conservative to see each to their own even if you personally disagree?

I'm sorry, I can't agree with "letting someone do with their own body as they like" because they are also doing something to the other small body inside of them. That child can't cry out, "Don't kill me, Mommy!" There are a very few instances where abortion may be necessary, but for most, they know what causes pregnancy and they refuse to take responsibility for their actions.

If these two stances are so important to you (and you are fiscally conservative) there is already a party for you--check out the Libertarian Party. Sounds like you should have voted for Gary Johnson. I agree with part of their platform, but I can't agree on abortion and a couple other things so I don't support them, but hey, sounds like just what you need!

There is no other party right now, last elections taught us that. Matter who you are or what you support if your not part of the GOP or DNC the Mainstream Media won't support you or even give you honest air time. Infact they will act like you don't exist, same for the GOP and DNC. As we saw Debate time is one of the biggest hitters in the election yet how much time did others besides Obama and Romney get in debates? To even try and go without Media attention one will need massive amounts of money yet where will that come from as all the big money is highly spoken for.

But what you say about "abortion" its not that I personally disagree with. I tend to say at least ban after 3 months but after that its not the Fed governments job really. One says its a living soul, another says its not... its again about religious beliefs and personal beliefs. I always thought in the US it was about religious freedom and personal freedom to believe in what you wish. Heck, we let parents kill their kids with a crackpot religion refusing medicine besides "prayer".... how is this any different? Anyways its not about supporting but just saying its not on your agenda to legalize it or ban it, make it a non issue.

I majored in Biology in college and believe me, at conception, as soon as the DNA from each parent joins, this is biologically a human being. And within about 3 weeks, it looks like a human being. In my mind, this can't be a religious freedom issue. We have laws against murdering humans and this is a human. These days, the courts are usually not allowing parents to treat with prayer, and at least, they don't intend to murder their child.

Nobody else gets debate time because the Powers That Be don't want anyone from another party to have a chance. They only control the Dems and the GOP--can't have anyone in office that they can't control!

Is there some way we can FORCE her to leave? :D
