Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich sharply criticized the $240 million dollar cost to implement AB60, authored by Democratic Assemblyman Luis Alejo of Watsonville and signed by Governor Brown, to issue 1.4 million California driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants over the next three years.

“Once again, the state has shortchanged the needs of foster children, emancipated foster youth, the mentally ill, and public safety by reallocating funding to a program that provides illegals with driver’s licenses,” said Antonovich. “The $240 million dollars should be used to enhance programs that serve the needs of the underserved and underprivileged which have been neglected for years by the state.”

Implementation of this program will require hiring an additional 900 Department of Motor Vehicle employees. The funding for those employees will not come from the State General Fund; rather AB 60 assumes the cost will be covered by the license applications themselves at $32 a license.

However, the DMV is already considering raising the fee for all new drivers’ license from $32 to as $100 to cover the implementation cost of AB 60.

“AB 60 is an irresponsible law which provides another incentive to those who break federal immigration laws.” said Antonovich.
“In Los Angeles County alone, children of illegal immigrants born here are receiving over $640 million a year for welfare and food stamps. In addition the cost to provide medical services exceeds $500 million. These costs do not even include those illegal immigrants incarcerated in County jails."

Extremely long waits for scheduled appointments and walk-in appointments have been reported at most DMV offices. Residents living near DMV offices have reported dangerous conditions associated with parking and long lines on residential streets. The impacts of these lines and crowds have caused exasperation from business leaders as well as residents.

Amazing how our roads are in need of repair, our schools are failing and running out of money, yet we have 240 million for illegals. Once again the good taxpaying people do not count. You go for it Supervisor tell them where it is at! Enough is enough! What about us?

I don't understand why we had to add employees and offices to "accommodate" the new applicants. Could we not have phased this in in a manner that could have been handled with existing resources? This is an accommodation, not an obligation and it shouldn't be a tax burden to legal residents.

"However, the DMV is already considering raising the fee for all new drivers’ license from $32 to as $100 to cover the implementation cost of AB 60." Seriously?

Why do people keep voting for Jerry Brown and other politicians who take Citizens rights and give them to others at no cost

It's simple ferryhater, there are two kinds of people that vote for people like Brown, Boxer, Feinstein, and Pelosi. The first are the rich, the really rich, who live on the coasts and can afford to pay for things like moronic environmentalism that has gripped this state. The other type is what I call, for a lack of a better word, the stupid among us. They are too stupid to know that voting for these people hurts them far worse than anyone else because the Gods toss them a few dollars, lets call them peanuts instead of dollars, to buy their votes. Do you think Barbara Streisand cares that the cost of electric is going through the roof and is showing now sign of slowing down? Doesn't matter to her one bit, or me for that matter, but I'm smart enough to know better.

I read today that 12.2 million Californians are on Medical, ONE FREAKIN THIRD OF THE POPULATION OF THIS STATE! Libs cheer this, the poor and stupid thank their lords for this, while the rest of us shake our heads and count the days until we can leave this god forsaken state, provided we are fortunate enough to be that position, which I am thankfully.

They send benefit cards to anyone who qualifies when you sign up for Covered California, if your situation is covered. In fact, they won't sell you coverage.

Is this man a Mexican nativist politician whose primary goal is the advancement of the Chicano population of California without regard to citizenship? Or is he a ethnocentric that attained office to advance the Chicano agenda of Reconquista that is racist and exclusive?

    Luis Alejo

Luis Alejo (born March 27, 1974) is an American politician currently serving in the California State Assemblyrepresenting the 30th district, encompassing the Pajaro and Salinas valleys.

    Biography

    Early life[edit]

Born and raised in Watsonville, Alejo’s family came to work in the agricultural fields of the Salinas, Santa Clara andPajaro Valleys as migrant farmworkers in the 1950s.
Alejo graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with dual bachelors degrees in political science and Chicano studies, and obtained his master's of education degree from Harvard University in administration, planning and social policy. He received his Juris Doctorate (JD) from the University of California, Davis School of Law (King Hall), where he won the “Maggie Schelen” scholarship for public service.
After finishing his graduate and professional studies, Alejo returned to his hometown of Watsonville to work as a legal aid attorney where he championed the rights of working families throughout the Monterey Bay area. He then worked as a staff attorney for the Monterey County Superior Court, where he assisted thousands of self-represented litigants throughout Monterey County who couldn’t afford private attorneys. He has also worked as a high school teacher, focusing on “at-risk” children.[1]
    Career[edit]

Before his election to the State Legislature, Alejo was the mayor of Watsonville, California. He was elected to District 2 of the Watsonville City Council with nearly 80% of the vote and became mayor in November 2009.[2][3] He had become Vice Mayor in March 2009.[4]
Prior to his public service, Alejo served as a Jesse M. Unruh Assembly Fellow where he worked as a legislative aide for Assemblymember Manny Diaz (D-San Jose).[5] He attended the University of California, Berkeley, the University of California, Davis School of Law (King Hall), and Harvard University.[6][7]

California Dem legislator says Asians not 'people of color'

    By Thomas Lifson

Rep. Luis Alejo (D-Salinas) is on the record telling the Sacramento Bee that Asian-Americans are not “people of color” – the magical status that allows one to claim the spoils of victimhood. Bemoaning the end of affirmative action when he was applying to law school, he told the Bee:

“When Luis Alejo applied to college at the University of California, Berkeley, admissions counselors could consider his race; when he applied to law school, it had become invisible.

“It was only after a string of rejections led him to beg for a face-to-face interview with an admissions officer, Alejo said, that he won a spot at the University of California, Davis, law school, launching a career that in 2010 elevated him to the state Assembly.

“The year Alejo was preparing for law school, voters altered his prospects by passing Proposition 209, California’s ban on race-inclusive admissions policies. Alejo and others unsuccessfully fought the initiative, a losing battle that he described as a formative political experience.

“’All our fears came true,’ said Alejo, a Democrat from Watsonville. ‘Once it went into effect, we saw dramatic drops in the numbers of students of color being able to attend some of our most prestigious graduate and professional schools.’”

Chris Reed of Cal Watchdog spotted the statement and drew the obvious conclusion:

… there haven’t been overall “dramatic drops” of “students of color” if you include Asian-Americans. They are the largest ethnic group at UC campuses — 35 percent at UC Berkeley and 33 percent at UCLA.
This is delicious and obnoxious at the same time.

What makes it delicious is that Alejo’s omission of Asian-Americans from “students of color” status so undercuts majority Democrats’ attempts to stop the Latino-Asian rift from growing.
Indeed, Asian-American voters overwhelmingly support Democrats at the polls, though the recent attempt to reverse the color-blind initiative Prop. 209 resulted in Asian-American grass roots organizations (but not the established groups)rising in protest.

I remember well when Apartheid South Africa made visiting Japanese and Chinese business people “honorary whites.” I guess Alejo agrees with that logic. Either that or he believes “people of color” can’t be successful, so if you succeed academically, suddenly you gain pallor.

    Spot the racist.
