PHARR — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a Mexican man Friday after they found large amounts of cocaine in his vehicle as he tried to cross the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge, authorities said Monday.

Officers referred the 42-year-old Reynosa man, who was driving a 1999 Dodge Stratus, to a secondary inspection where they discovered more than 40 pounds of cocaine hidden in the vehicle, according to a news release.

Authorities estimated that the drugs are worth $319,000, the release said.

Officers arrested the man and released him to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations.
