MCALLEN – Mexico is now considered the world leader in reported kidnappings, and it is expected to get worse in 2006.
MCALLEN – Mexico is now considered the world leader in reported kidnappings, and it is expected to get worse in 2006.

A Mexican private security group reports a kidnap victim is more likely to die from their captors. During the first six months of 2005, there were 194 kidnap cases in Mexico compared to 172 reported in Colombia – the country formerly at the top of the list.

Gonzalo Angel Silva Cavazos is a businessman who lives in Monterrey, and he is very familiar with the problems of kidnappings in his country.

"We don't like the kidnappings, Cavazos said. “We need to have more to take care of the family and have our conscience of what you are going to do."

A report by the Mexican Citizen Council for Safety says kidnappers are three times more likely to kill their victims compared to Colombia's abductors. According to the Council, about one out of every seven people die at the hands of their captors in Mexico.

"The kidnapping is a problem from the economy, Cavazos said. “And the drugs is what is happening."

Already, lawmen say they've seen more kidnappings in Starr and Hidalgo counties. Local police fear it's going to spread here in the Valley.

"I think all the agencies are worried about that, said Pharr Police Lt. Guadalupe Salinas. “Because being so close to the border you know people go and come across daily into Mexico. So yes, we are worried it'll come over here."

This is too close to America. And they wonder why we want to shut the doors. Our nation is at stake. We cant keep flip-flopping between bill after bill. We have laws already on the books that need to be ENFORCED. IF THAT DOESNT WORK, PUT OUR MILITARY ON THE BORDER AND MAKE THE FENCE THE #1 PRIORITY!

Don't forget to brag about THIS in your State of the Union Address to the country, Jorge. Nice job. How long have you been the president ?
Five years? Yea, okay, I'd say you deserve ALL the credit for this one.
