Mexico steps up control over imports of foreign Christmas trees

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico is stepping up control over imports of American and Canadian Christmas trees to avoid foreign plant bugs, the Environmental Department said Friday.

Nearly 100 special inspectors will be positioned along Mexico's 2,000-mile (3,200-kilometer) border with the United States, scrutinizing the leaves and branches of the 800,000 Christmas trees it expects to flow south this season, said Hector Gonzalez, Assistant Attorney General of Natural Resources.

"We have to protect our rich forests and woodlands from exotic plagues," Gonzalez said.

"To protect Mexico's environment, we going to use the full weight of the law," he said.

So let me get this straight, Mexico is so concerned about foreign invasion of Christmas trees and the effects it may have on its country it intends to use the 'full weight of the law' to protect themselves from invasion? Doesn't this sound kind of ironic? For one, Mexico concerned about invasion, and secondly, to use its laws to keep out invaders? How about respecting U.S. law and protecting us from your invading masses, of people that is.

Hey!! This is great isn't it? While they are stopping the flow of Chrismas Trees into Mexico, they can stop the flow of ILLEGAL ALIENS into the USA.

But wait....maybe this is a RUSE to have their agents...disguised as Christmas Tree Inspectors at the borders to protect their ILLEGAL ALIENS and make sure they get through and into the United States.

Well, that just BLOWS ME AWAY! They are going to use the full weight of their laws to keep BUGS out of MEXICO. WHAT in the heck are they going to do to keep the HUMAN ONES from LEAVING MEXICO and coming HERE to bring their third-world diseases to infect AMERICA? Oh Gee whiz! I guess that will really hurt our economy. Probably the Mexicans who want an American Christmas tree will just stroll across the border and buy one in the Wal Mart parking lot anyway so what earthly difference will their law make?

And I suppose these "bugs" can't get across the border on their own like the ones do that come from there to here.

And, I agree, I hope they keep their people on their side of the border while they are enforcing this "law" from the land of the lawless. It will be one of few laws they have ever enforced but I guess they've got to start somewhere.

yeah- Oregon has been taken over by mexicans- but you cant say anything about it- every place I go the jobs are filled by mexicans- but get this-the public schools have spanish immersion classes so the mexicans can keep thier spanish- but the art classes and music were canceled due to budget cutbacks-
Mexico doesnt want these peasants- or to create jobs for them in their country- the government is being supported by illegal workers here- I will never vote for the public schools again-because they are for the immigrants who take and take and if they dont get they call everyone racist -
