A Pakistani government official says a bomb struck a passenger train in the country's southwest, killing five people.

The official says the remote-control bomb was planted on the railroad tracks near the town of Dera Murad Jamali in the district of Naseerabad in Baluchistan province.

The district's deputy commissioner, Sohail Rehman, says the bomb exploded on Monday morning, killing five people and wounding 10. It also derailed four railcars.

The town is roughly 300 kilometers (186 miles) east of the provincial capital, Quetta.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

The province has been affected by a low-level insurgency by separatist groups, who want more shares in the region's natural resources. Al-Qaida linked Sunni militant groups also operate there.
