Mine owner murdered in northern Mexico

A mine owner was murdered in Salinas, a city in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila, state officials said.
Basilio Niņo Ramos appears to have been tortured and was killed execution-style, indicating that the crime may have been committed by members of an organized crime group, Coahuila government spokesman Sergio Sisbeles said.
Niņo Ramos's body was found Friday night in the Los Montes de Sabinas section of Salinas, Sisbeles said.
The 59-year-old Niņo Ramos's index finger was cut off and placed in his mouth, the state government spokesman told Efe.
The evidence indicates that the businessman, who owned some of the illegal coal mines that operate in the state, may have been killed as revenge, officials said.
Former Coahuila Gov. Humberto Moreira said after his son's murder on Oct. 3 that drug cartels may be involved in the development and management of the border state's mining industry.
The federal Attorney General's Office is investigating the allegations.
