RUSH: Hey, did you hear what Mitt Romney said? I can tell by the look on your face you haven't heard. Mitt Romney said Republicans should swallow hard and pass permanent amnesty. Head Obama off at the pass, swallow hard and pass a permanent amnesty bill in the wake of Obama's executive amnesty, that "even Romney conceded would encourage more illegal immigrants to enter the country."
Romney mentioned this on Spanish-language Univision. He said Obama is "giving people false hope" and "communicating to people outside this country, 'Hey, get into the United States illegally and stay, because they'll always let you stay.'" What's false about it? It's not false hope; it's real hope. It's what Obama's doing. No false hope there. Obama has sent the signal: Get into the country, hang around, you'll get amnesty.

You know, I'm watching -- what was the game I was watching yesterday? It was local because Sunday Ticket didn't have it. It must have been the Packers. It was the Packers-Patriots and at halftime the local station went to the news, and I couldn't believe what I was watching. They did a celebration of the end of hurricane season. The hurricane season ended yesterday and they did a celebration, as though we've all been devastated by hurricanes all year and finally it's over. It was the funniest thing. Local TV news celebrating the end of hurricane season, like, "Man, thank God it's finally over." We haven't had a hurricane in five years. I don't know. It just sort of boggled my mind.

RUSH: Did you hear about Mitt Romney, folks? Did you hear about what Mitt Romney suggested? Mitt Romney thinks that Republicans should go ahead and swallow hard and pass permanent comprehensive immigration amnesty in the wake of Obama's executive amnesty. Now, Romney admitted that this is gonna encourage more illegal immigrants to enter the country. He was on Univision, and he said that Obama's giving people false hope. His solution is for Congress to pass a permanent clarification of our immigration law so that people know where they stand.
Go ahead and just swallow hard and do permanent amnesty, beat Obama to the punch, head Obama off at the pass. (interruption) Why? Well, because it's stealing an issue from the Democrats, I guess, and, I don't know, maybe Romney believes it. I don't know. You're asking me what... (interruption) I think he's voicing the desires of the Republican establishment. "Hey, now that Obama's done it, hell, what are we waiting for, man? Full speed ahead, damn the torpedoes. Let's just go all the way. Let's beat Obama there and let's take the credit for it, and let's take Obama out of the picture on this. That will really set us up great." Exactly right.

CALLER: Hey, Rush, it's an honor to be on your program.
RUSH: Thank you very much, sir.
CALLER: Hey, I'm mad as hell with this immigration thing. I'm one of the few and rare people that's legitimately been trying to get a Guatemala national into the country for the past two years, who happens to be my wife. You wouldn't believe the hoops I've had to jump through, the money that I've spent, thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars with lawyers, legal fees, immigration charges, the whole shooting match, and still she's not here. It's been two years, Rush.
RUSH: Guatemala, you say?
CALLER: Guatemala, si, senor.
RUSH: It's really curious because a bunch of, quite a lot of the underage, the minor illegal immigrants, the kids that have been coming across the border ever since January are from Guatemala, and --
CALLER: Right.
RUSH: -- El Salvador and so forth. And, I mean, hell, they're being put on trains and being delivered here. Joe Biden said the other day we're gonna send airplanes down to fly them and their parents in, so it ought to bode -- (crosstalk) -- say that again?

RUSH: What is that? Coached down there? We're talking at the same time. I didn't hear what you said. Try again.
CALLER: Well, they're being coached down there, Rush. I've been to Guatemala probably 12 times in the last two years for stays up to about a week.
RUSH: No question about it. I'm just surprised that, if your wife is from there, and look, I understand the main point. You're trying to do it legally, and here's Obama cutting the rug out from under you, and everybody else in your shoes, and you don't like it. You tried to go by the rules. You've tried to do this in a way that would make your wife legal when she got here with no questions asked, not needing amnesty or anything of the sort, and then you look and you see all this lawlessness going on and you feel like, what's the point? Why should I do this the legal way?
CALLER: Well, you know what rankles me the most, Rush?
RUSH: No. What?
CALLER: The last thing that I've had to do is sign a 10-year affidavit of support that supersedes even divorce. If my wife were to get here and we were to get divorced in three years, I have to legally support her and my stepson, whom I am also having to immigrate here, for the next 10 years.
RUSH: Are you by any chance -- I'm not joking -- are you a registered Republican?
CALLER: Yes, sir.
RUSH: Well, I have a tough time believing they would demand this of a Democrat.
CALLER: Yeah, well.
RUSH: Well, I'm being facetious, but still, they demand, even if you get divorced, you bring her here, you're still gonna be required to pay all support for 10 years?
CALLER: Well, right. Well, how do you think I feel about five million people coming here that there's no affidavit of support being signed for them?
RUSH: Exactly, because the government, the Democrat Party's taking care of them. They're gonna be future Democrat registered voters.
CALLER: So if I get divorced in three years, not saying I will, but I'm just, you know, hypothetically.
RUSH: Yeah?
CALLER: So I'll have to support my wife for the next seven years while I watch five million illegal immigrants, once illegals, get a free ride.
RUSH: Right. Yeah.
CALLER: How fair is that? I mean, there's just no fairness there, plus my wife spent 10 months, process with Homeland Security, that's the first step of a three-part process with legal immigration, 10 months it languished in Homeland Security while they did every kind of background check. I had to get a police report from the ciudad, city of Guatemala, a genuine thing mailed. You wouldn't believe the hoops we had to jump through, but if she makes it in, now it's at the embassy there waiting --
RUSH: Is she still in Guatemala?
CALLER: Yes! Yes! I got married December 5th two years ago.
RUSH: Lance, put her on a train.
CALLER: (laughing) I should. Beat the system.
RUSH: I don't know what to say. It's incredible. It's incredible. I understand. I wish I knew what to tell you. I wish I had an answer for you. I guess, you know, swallow hard. It's about all you can do.

Mitt Romney, former Massachusetts governor and Republican presidential nominee in 2012, believes Republicans should go ahead and swallow hard -- did you hear about this? -- and pass a permanent amnesty bill in the wake of President Obama's executive amnesty.
"Romney's solution is for Congress to pass a 'permanent clarification of our immigration laws so that people know where they stand,' because Obama's executive amnesty is only temporary." It's not good enough. We need to go all the way. We need to go all in, and we need to provide amnesty for everybody, not just a chump change five million. We need to go all the way in, and we need the Republican Party to get the credit for this.
"Romney said that he was 'pretty confident that what the president’s doing will so inflame passions on the part of many in my party… that they will be far less likely to move aggressively on the type of permanent reform that’s so badly needed.' He hoped the party could work on some piecemeal solutions on immigration to get the ball rolling," so that we eventually get to full-fledged comprehensive immigration reform.
Romney said, "Maybe even then, Republicans will swallow hard and say, 'OK, even despite the fact that we now have a stick in our eye launched by the president, we’re going to go ahead and try and see if we can’t make some improvements to the immigration system.' I hope we’re able to do that."
You know, I don't mind this swallow hard business, but how about enforcing the laws that are already on the books? You know, there's some comprehensive immigration reform just waiting to happen, and it doesn't require a new law. All comprehensive immigration could be, should be, is simply enforce the law that we already have on the books. What's so hard about that? (interruption) Well, have to deport people? Maybe, but secure the border first and then talk about that.
The thing about immigration law that most people are upset about not being enforced is border security. That's what most people are concerned about. Do you realize that in this country from -- I'm gonna have to ballpark the years, but it's pretty close to 1928 through 19, what, 64, there wasn't any immigration in this country? We shut it down. Are you aware of that, folks? We were able to do that. How in the world were we able to do that? We shut it down. There wasn't any legal immigration for 40 or 50 years, and the reason for it made total sense. We had to assimilate that wave of immigrants that came in the late 1800s all through 1920 and '24, the Ellis Island period.
We had to assimilate them and there wasn't any immigration for 30 or 40, maybe 50 years. I don't think people are aware of this, A, proving that we can do it, and there might have been some scattered deportations if people didn't qualify, but it wasn't mass. But we've got existing immigration law on the books. Talk about comprehensive, how about comprehensive simple. Simply enforce what's there.
Anyway, that's not what the Republicans want to do. The Republicans -- there's no mystery about this. They are convinced that they've got to do this for the eventual support of the Hispanic community. I guess they have no other alternative that's gonna be their position, comprehensive. And now Romney's coming out and saying, yeah, we should do it, and we should beat Obama to the punch, head him off at the pass and do the whole thing all at once.

CALLER: Yes, sir, you are.
RUSH: Thank you. Great to have you on the program, sir.
CALLER: Yes, Rush. Cyber Monday dittos to you.

CALLER: Back during the presidential campaign, I remember Barack Obama was berating some of the companies or supposed companies that were sending jobs overseas, giving them to foreign workers.
RUSH: I remember this, yes.
CALLER: But just this last weekend, I heard that now they want to give a tax credit to those companies who actually bring in illegal workers. So I just wanted your take on this insanity of the administration or the president.
RUSH: That's a good catch. That is an excellent catch. That came up over the Thanksgiving break. That's exactly right. Obama does want to have businesses get a tax break for hiring illegals. That's exactly right! It's exactly what he has offered, while at the same time during the campaign ripping these same businesses for outsourcing and taking jobs overseas. In either case, American citizens are on the outs with Obama. That's a good catch, and it just illustrates that all of this is politics. There's nothing humanitarian about this. There's nothing compassionate about.
This is all full-fledged, 100% politics.

You may not have heard about this, but Mitt Romney -- the Republican presidential nominee and candidate in 2012 -- has suggested that the Republican Party just go all-in on amnesty. Full-fledged, total, comprehensive amnesty for everyone, every illegal. Romney says we need to do this as the Republican Party to head Obama off at the pass.

What's false about? That's not false hope. That's real hope. It isn't false! Get into the country and stay and the odds are you're gonna be able to stay. Does anybody think Obama's gonna stop at five million? I guess that's what Romney knows, that Obama's gonna do another one for another five million or whatever.
He just wants the Republicans to move in and head Obama off at the pass and get the credit. "Romney's solution is for Congress to pass a 'permanent clarification of our immigration laws so that people know where they stand,' because Obama's executive amnesty is only temporary," but the Republicans need to move fast and make it real, make it permanent. I thought I'd mention that in case you missed it today.

CALLER: I'm actually with Romney on this. I could see accepting amnesty, but there'd have to be some conditions. If we could have an end to the sanctuary cities where Democrat cities flout the immigration laws of the country, if we could have an end to the automatic chain migration of families where one immigrant becomes 150, if we can have no more birthright citizenship for illegals, if we could have --
RUSH: Well, now, wait. Romney's not proposing any of this.
CALLER: Oh, no.
RUSH: So why are you saying you agree with Romney?
CALLER: I'm a lot more conservative than Romney, but, yeah. If we had English as the only official language of the country, and if we had meaningful sponsorship so that if you have three people who'd vouch for you as an immigrant and when you screw up they have to leave also --
RUSH: (chuckles) Sir, you're a dreamer. I think you're one of the DREAMers. (chuckles)
CALLER: We need to modernize citizenship and the concept of immigration. This is not a frontier anymore. You know, somebody can live in America and spend all their time on Facebook back in the old country. There's no comparing the original American immigrants to the people coming here to a land of opportunity and the Emerald City of America.
RUSH: No kidding.
CALLER: We don't need more Americans, we need better Americans, and I'd call it "citizenship modernization."
RUSH: I don't think anybody's talking about that.
CALLER: Well, that's why I called you.
RUSH: All they see is an opportunity to register more voters -- dependent voters, by the way. That's key.
CALLER: That's what Algore called it. "We don't want to be accused of running a pro-Democrat voter mill." That was back in '94 when Algore called it out. Yeah. Twenty years later, nothing's change except the numbers are 10 times larger.
RUSH: Right.
CALLER: Thanks for taking the call.
RUSH: Yeah, you bet. Don't be confused, folks. Romney did not suggest any of this that the guy was agreeing with. Don't be confused. This guy's ideas, they're stand alone. I mean, the idea of ending a sanctuary city? It'd be a great thing, but it's never gonna happen. You could legalize... You know, you could do away with the concept of illegal immigration. You could say, "There is no border anymore, we're all Americans -- and, you know what? You don't even have to come here.
"We will send you your welfare check in Honduras. We will send you your welfare, and we'll legalize voting from all countries and just do away with the border," and the sanctuary cities would still do it. Because there's always gonna be criminals out there needing sanctuary from something. There's always gonna be a victim or a series of victims from the evil United States that these cities will offer to protect.
So they'll never give up their sanctuary city status even though it's not legal in the first place.
