Mohammed Pedro Whitaker ID’d as Kansas City Highway Shooter; Charged With 18 Felonies

Mohammed Pedro Whitaker ID’d as Kansas City Highway Shooter; Charged With 18 Felonies

Mohammed Pedro Whitaker has been identified as the alleged Kansas City highway shooter and has been charged with 18 felonies from 9 separate incidents around the city metro region.

Officials gave an update in a press conference on Friday afternoon.

See a previous Associated Press report below.

GRANDVIEW, Mo.—Police arrested a suspect Thursday in a string of random vehicle shootings on Kansas City-area highways over the past few weeks that have wounded three motorists and frightened many more.

Police Chief Darryl Forte said at a news conference that the suspect is male and lives in Grandview, a suburb south of the city that is home to the Grandview Triangle, where several highways intersect and where at least six of the reported shootings happened.

Forte didn’t release the name or age of the suspect, saying he hoped to be able to discuss the case in further detail at a news conference Friday.

“We’re here now to basically let people know someone has been apprehended,” an upbeat Forte told reporters at an impromptu news conference about 50 yards from a house where the suspect was taken into custody earlier in the day. “I wanted to make sure the residents and those who travel through Kansas City know they’re safe. They’ve been safe the whole time.”

Investigators could be seen searching the single-story four-plex Thursday night, and a tow truck hauled away a green Dodge Neon that was parked behind house, which is about two blocks from U.S. 49 and south of the Grandview Triangle.

Forte said the Jackson County prosecutor’s office would determine if there is enough evidence to warrant pressing formal charges.

Detectives and analysts started noticing a pattern two weeks ago after reports of random shootings started coming in. Earlier this week, investigators were looking into about 20 reports of shootings, but that number has fluctuated as some reports were cleared and others came in.

Late last week, police said they had connected a dozen shootings to the same person. Forte has said little to this point about how the shootings were linked or what kind of vehicle the suspect drove.

Two of the wounded drivers were shot in the leg and the third was shot in the arm. None of their wounds were considered life-threatening.

Muslim Arrested in Kansas City Highway Sniper Shootings, charged wth 18 counts in 20 shootings

Another Muslim convert “misunderstanding” the literal word of the quran as millions of others jihadists “misunderstand” Islam. That’s story according to the Obama administration tools and apologists.

Hamas-CAIR is writing its press release now blaming …… islamophobia.
The bottom line is that Mohammed fired a gun at as many as 20 motorists on major roads and highways. Three people were shot.

You will recall another Mohammed sniper jihad in DC. John Allen Muhammad was an American Muslim convert who carried out the Beltway sniper attacks of October 2002, killing at least 10 people.

“Suspect in KC-area highway shooting charged with 18 counts in 9 incidents,” CNN, April 18, 2014

Kansas City, Missouri (CNN)[Breaking news alert, 2:34 p.m.]
Mohammed Whitaker, suspect in the Kansas City-area highway shootings, is charged with 18 felony counts covering nine incidents, Jackson County’s prosecutor said Friday. Two counts are “A” felonies alleging he shot someone by firing into a motor vehicle. Seven are “B” felonies alleging he fired into a motor vehicle. The other nine counts accuse him of armed criminal action, Jean Peters Baker said.

There’s no evidence to suggest that anyone else besides the arrestee was involved in the Kansas City highway shootings, she said. Authorities declined to say specifically what led them to believe Whitaker was the shooter. But Baker said surveillance, ballistics, tips and witness statements helped authorities build their case. More charges could be filed in the Kansas City-area highway shootings, she said.

Kansas City residents breathe easier after highway shootings suspect nabbed

For more than a month, motorists around Kansas City, Missouri, have worried about something besides traffic jams and potholes.

Someone had fired a gun at as many as 20 motorists on major roads and highways. Three people were shot, none with life-threatening injuries.

A news conference expecting to reveal details of the case was scheduled Friday, a day after Police Chief Darryl Forte announced a man was taken into custody in connection with the shootings. The suspect’s name won’t be released until charges have been filed.

Thursday’s arrest took place in Grandview, Missouri, south of Kansas City. Kevin Cooksey, who lives across an alley from the suspect, said he saw police take him into custody.

“He couldn’t go nowhere because he was surrounded. Completely surrounded,” Cooksey told affiliate KSHB-TV. “They were on him. As soon as it happened, they were on him.”

    Police: Highway shooting suspect arrested
The shootings began March 8, and at least 12 of them are connected, police said. Some motorists weren’t even aware shots had been fired at their vehicles.

Jennie Baugher was driving along U.S. 71 when she heard something strike her car.

“I thought a big rock hit us,” said the married mother of two from Roeland Park, Kansas. “My husband saw it the next day. Immediately when he told me that there was a hole in my car, I realized a bullet hit my car.”

    Mechanic found bullet holes

The first shooting victim, Tom McFarlin, said he thinks the shots came from a moving car on one of the ramps or overpasses.

“It was exactly where the highway splits,” he said.

McFarlin was headed home to Lee’s Summit, Missouri, on Interstate 470 south after watching his son’s basketball game. Like Baugher, his car was shot in the evening, around 8:30.

When he took his car to mechanics a few days later, they discovered not one, but two bullets. The second one was lodged in the undercarriage.
Both cars were hit in the rear on the passenger’s side. The bullets lodged in metal and did not make it inside. In McFarlin’s case, had the bullet made its way through the metal, anyone sitting in the passenger’s seat would have been hit.

Authorities offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives joined in the hunt.

Police increased their presence in the areas where the shootings occurred and asked drivers to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity immediately.

    Fears calmed

Residents greeted news of the arrest with relief.

“It’s actually been really nerve-wracking,” Marisol Sanchez told CNN affiliate KCTV-TV.

“It’s really scary because I’ve been scared driving around,” motorist Melissa Mitchell also told KCTV.

“Everybody is talking about the shooter, and now it’s good that they have caught him in a short time,” said gas station manager Bader Qureini.
Forte praised the community for providing more than 100 tips but did not offer details on what led police to a suspect.

“We wanted to make sure the residents and those that travel through Kansas City know that they’re safe and they’ve been safe the whole time,” he said.
