More Black on White Crime in Atlanta, Georgia

Police identified the suspect as Sparkles Lindsey, 22, of Austell. Cobb jail records, however, identify her as Lindsey Sparkles Lashayla. She has been charged with murder and aggravated assault and is being held in the Cobb jail.

Police say Lashayla fatally shot Kim Kilgore, 21, with a handgun in the parking lot at the Shiloh Green Apartments off Shiloh Road. Kilgore was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where she later died.

The incident involved two carloads of females and an altercation started near the gate to the apartment complex, said Sgt. Dana Pierce, a Cobb police spokesman. Police do not have information indicating the suspect and the victim previously knew each other, Pierce said.

“There was a whole lot going on out there,” he said. “You have two carloads or groups of people who are at one another.”

Kilgore was studying communications at Kennesaw State University, where she was a former member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

The sorority issued a statement on Twitter Friday about the Paulding County High School graduate: “Our prayers go out to our dear friend Kim Kilgore!” The university also issued a statement, expressing condolences and announcing that it was preparing to offer grief counseling for those who knew Kilgore.

Cobb County police have arrested and charged a suspect in the fatal shooting of a college student following a road rage incident in Kennesaw early Friday morning.

Police identified the suspect as Sparkles Lindsey, 22, of Austell. Cobb jail records, however, identify her as Lindsey Sparkles Lashayla. She has been charged with murder and aggravated assault and is being held in the Cobb jail without bond. She made her first court appearance Saturday night, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Road-rage dispute ends in shooting of KSU student

KENNESAW — A road-rage incident that started at 2 a.m. Friday morning ended in the shooting of 22-year-old KSU student Kim Kilgore outside an apartment complex in north Cobb.

Cobb County Police said two drivers had an altercation along Shiloh Road, which led to a physical confrontation outside of the vehicles in the parking lot in Shiloh Green Apartments, near building 100.

An unnamed suspect pulled out a gun and shot Kilgore, who was transported to a local hospital where she was fighting for her life Friday night.

“Detectives are following up on several leads, but as of now, we don’t have anyone in custody,” said Officer Mike Bowman with Cobb Police about the investigation.

Shiloh Green Apartments, located on Walton Green Way, which runs next to Interstate 75, sits across from a large Home Depot store.

Leading in and out of the complex are three sets of black metal gates, which stay open for almost 15 seconds. That delay is enough time for multiple cars to pull through, which is a common occurrence. In this case, it could be deadly.

Cobb County Police said they were not sure how the two drivers got inside.

Director of Student Life at KSU Kathy Alday said Kilgore was a former member of a sorority, who resigned her membership last year.

The Gamma Phi Beta sorority started a Twitter discussion under the hashtag #prayforkim.

A gated complex

Residents of Shiloh Green Apartments were standing outside the complex Friday afternoon waiting for their kids to be dropped off by the school bus.

The women said they did not hear the gunshots early Friday morning, or any police sirens. In fact, most of them heard about the shooting while they were waiting for the bus to arrive in the morning.

One mother was Becky King, 45, who moved with her five kids from Paulding County into the apartment complex June 1.

“I was shocked,” King said.

King said she loves the area, and that this type of violent crime is not common at Shiloh Green Apartments.

“I think it was random,” King said. “Someone got ticked off and it was certainly not the right way to handle it.”

The entry road to the apartment complex, which houses many four-story buildings, is lined with large trees, gazebos and a clubhouse.

King said one major reason she chose Shiloh Green Apartments was the gate system, which requires residents and guests to use a code or electronic opener to get through.

“We would like to see it shut behind us a little faster,” King said.

Cobb County police spokeswoman Sgt. Dana Pierce said the incident involved “two carloads of females and an altercation started near the gate of the apartment complex,” the AJC reports. It is not clear if Sparkles Lashayla Lindsey and Kim Kilgore knew each other.
