More Than 134,000 Petition Obama Admin. to Demand Release of Sgt. Tahmooressi — Here’s the Response They Received Instead

More than 134,000 people signed a petition asking the Obama administration to demand the release of U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi from a Mexican prison. Tahmooressi, who is reportedly suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, has been imprisoned for nearly five months after being arrested for unintentionally crossing into Mexico with firearms.

The White House responded to the popular petition on Friday, calling for Mexican authorities to handle the Marine’s case “expeditiously” rather than demanding his release.

Read the White House’s full response below:

The U.S. State Department continues to provide extensive consular assistance to Mr. Tahmooressi, and will do so until his case is resolved. As in all cases when a U.S. citizen is arrested overseas, our goal is to see that Mr. Tahmooressi is treated fairly during the judicial process with the hope that he can receive the support, both emotional and medical, that he may require now and at the conclusion of the proceedings.

Mexico is one of the United States’ most important partners. We have close economic and cultural ties, and we work closely with them on numerous sensitive issues. While we will not go into detail about our private diplomatic discussions on this case, U.S. officials, including Secretary of State John Kerry, have spoken to Mexican officials at the highest levels regarding Mr. Tahmooressi’s case.

Mexican authorities have been very willing to engage on this issue. They have provided prompt and continued consular access and visitations. As a result, the State Department has been able to provide regular updates on Mr. Tahmooressi’s condition to his family, Members of Congress, and the press.

We respect the rule of law and expect the judicial process of sovereign nations to protect other U.S. citizens who might find themselves in similar circumstances in the future. We will continue to monitor the case and work with the Mexican authorities as this case proceeds through the Mexican judicial system. We continue to urge the Mexican authorities to process this case expeditiously.

Tahmooressi claims that he took a wrong turn and ended up at a border checkpoint. It was discovered that he was traveling with three firearms, a serious offense under Mexico’s strict gun laws.

Tahmooressi faces up to 14 years in prison if he’s convicted of illegally possessing guns and ammunition.

White House Will Do Nothing to Secure Sgt. Tahmooressi’s Release

    by Sara Noble • August 30, 2014

The White House responded to the We the People Petition in the case of Sgt. Tahmooressi last evening as the holiday weekend began, at least that is when they emailed me. They will do nothing to get him freed. The same White House that traded five Taliban terrorists for a deserter, will do nothing for an honorable Marine who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan for his country.

They said they traded for Bergdahl because they never leave a man behind, but they are leaving Tahmooressi behind.
Sgt. Tahmooressi accidentally ended up in Mexico at the border, volunteered that he had guns in the car, was immediately arrested, and was tortured for a month. He remains imprisoned. The Sergeant has PTSD.
The important paragraph in the brief response to the petition is this one:
“We respect the rule of law and expect the judicial process of sovereign nations to protect other U.S. citizens who might find themselves in similar circumstances in the future. We will continue to monitor the case and work with the Mexican authorities as this case proceeds through the Mexican judicial system. We continue to urge the Mexican authorities to process this case expeditiously.”
They are monitoring and hope for a quick trial. All they would have to do for a speedy trial is to have Obama call Pena Nieto.
It has already been shown that they will drag the trial out.
The White House wrote that they want him treated fairly during the judicial process. There has been consular assistance and Kerry has spoken with the highest levels in the Mexican government, the letter reads.
It’s good to know that they respect the rule of law of sovereign nations to protect U.S. citizens. They don’t respect the rule of law in this country and they spy on, target and verbally abuse U.S. citizens.
This is a screenshot of the letter I received:

    I was allowed a response:
“The WH frees a deserter, trades him for five Taliban terrorists, and won’t do a thing to get a soldier released who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan. We cater to Mexico’s illegal immigrants, many of whom are drug dealers. What is wrong with you people?”
Where is the rest of the media on this? Except for FoxNews and especially Greta Van Susteren, where are they?
This young man is rotting in a Mexican prison while their drug dealers flow across our borders with Obama’s assistance.

House Subcommittee to Hold Hearing on Marine Jailed in Mexico

House Subcommittee to Hold Hearing on Marine Jailed in Mexico

    by
    Fox News Insider // Sep 12 2014 // 8:55pm
As seen on On the Record with Greta Van Susteren

A House subcommittee will hold a hearing on Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, who remains jailed in Mexico.

Montel Williams and Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.) went “On The Record” to discuss the hearing, which is set for Oct. 1.
“It’s time for us to make sure the American public understands there is a sick U.S. soldier being held in a prison outside of the United States,” Williams said, explaining that Tahmooressi suffers from combat PTSD and that the Mexican government cannot give him the care needed to deal with that.

Salmon said Williams, Tahmooressi’s mother, a PTSD expert, and Tahmooressi’s former comrade from Afghanistan will attend the hearing. He said that he wants to show the Mexican government that we mean business, and to show the Obama administration that it is well past time to get this done.

“The president has had ample opportunity to pick up the phone and call the president of Mexico,” Salmon said.
Williams noted, “This is about taking care of our soldiers who give us the right to speak out this way.”
