More than a dozen U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents have signed a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen calling to eliminate ICE and shift its work to another bureau.

At least 19 ICE investigators signed the letter to Nielsen, saying they were concerned that the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration was preventing them from carrying out the agency’s other duties.

Investigators “have been perceived as targeting undocumented aliens, instead of the transnational criminal organizations that facilitate cross border crimes impacting our communities and national security,” the letter states.

The agents who signed the letter are members of Homeland Security Investigations, a section of ICE. Agents in the division work on crimes like drug trafficking, cyber crimes and human smuggling, according to The New York Times.

The agents suggested that Nielsen create a second bureau just for their investigations, and another for immigration detentions and deportations.

The Texas Observer first reported on the letter.

The Hill has reached out to ICE for comment.

Calls to dissolve ICE have recently grown more popular among Democratic lawmakers in light of the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy at the border.

Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.) last week introduced a bill to eliminate the agency.

The Trump administration faced widespread criticism for its practice of separating immigrant children from their families at the border, which Trump ended with an executive order last week.

Immigrant families will now be detained together under the zero tolerance policy, which requires that all adults caught illegally crossing the border face prosecution.

Okay, that's not a reason to disband ICE. Instead of calling for the elimination of ice, why not sign a letter asking for more ICE agents? More agents mean more resources to deal with all ICE responsibilities.

Since these complainers aren't happy serving our country as ICE agents within the DHS and want ICE eliminated, perhaps we should just eliminate them!

Or better yet, stop using ICE agents to handle things that aren't their responsibility. ICE stands for immigration and customs enforcement, not illegal drugs and cyber crime enforcement. Plenty of other agencies that can handle those things.Like the DEA and the FBI for example. Let ICE handle immigration issues.

The swamp permeates every department. Some former agents, former government employees have revealed themselves to be swamp creatures. They were on the inside working against America and citizens, against their department's purpose. Now they are on the outside speaking out boldly against the Trump administration's efforts to stop the illegal immigration madness.

Just like we are seeing at the DOJ and the FBI, the same corruption is at ICE, DHS, elsewhere. The open orders zealots are against immigration enforcement, extreme vetting, deportations. We need to root them out, though firing anyone is near impossible. Assign them to insignificant duties.

ICE stands for Immigration AND CUSTOMS Enforcement. Everyone forgets the C part of ICE and only focuses on the I part. ICE is the combination of the former INS and U.S. Customs Service. Customs involves drugs coming into the country and Merchandise being imported into the U.S. Also, Immigration Enforcement is more in depth than just deporting illegals, it involves investigating major cases into Organized Human Trafficking syndicates, Visa Fraud Rings, Smuggling Organizations, Transnational Gang and Organized Crime investigations involving the border, and other large scale investigations, Deporting an illegal alien to ICE as a whole is the equivalent of a Homicide Detective for a Major Police Department writing speeding tickets all day long. There are much bigger crimes that ICE deals with, but Trump and the media only focus on one tiny part of ICE's total mission. There is a wing of ICE that handles solely deportations, it is called Enforcement and Removal Operations(ERO). The Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) wing of ICE wants to split from ERO and become it's own agency. They are not calling for ICE to be dissolved, the article is inaccurate. They are just asking for the agency to be split into two different agencies, ERO to handle deportations only, and HSI to handle Major Criminal Investigations.
