'His presidential campaign should be declared dead'

The National Enquirer opened its recent hit piece on Ben Carson, retired neurosurgeon and rising presidential candidate, this way: “Judging by White House wannabe Ben Carson’s track record as a neurosurgeon, his presidential campaign should be declared dead on arrival!”
The story is the latest media-driven attack on Carson, who has moved into second place in most recent polls of the Republican primary race.

From there, the newspaper runs down findings of what it calls its “bombshell investigation into his medical career,” pulling up interviews with past patients with grievances to air – including one who said he left a sponge inside her skull.
Or, as the Enquirer put it: “The Republican candidate allegedly rushed patients into surgery, and brandished a scalpel like a meat cleaver!”
Karly Bailey, former patient, called Carson “totally untrustworthy” in the news story, and said he actually went against her parents’ wishes to perform a risky tumor-removal procedure.

“I was paralyzed on my right side,” she said, the Enquirer reported. “I’ve never fully recovered.”
And another patient, Darlene King, complained Carson caused her much pain with “a sponge he had left in [her] brain,” the news organization reported.
But Carson said those complaints are sour grapes. During a Wednesday evening Fox News appearance on Sean Hannity’s show, Carson dismissed the criticisms and said “one of those cases, they’ve been threatening for years [to sue] … going to the media, going to ruin [my] career,” he said.
Carson’s been under attack by many in the media for days now over comments he made in context of discussing the mass shooting deaths at a community college in Oregon. As WND reported, he said during a “Fox & Friends” appearance that if he faced a similar situation, he would likely charge at the shooter and try to disarm him or her. For that, many in the media criticized him as tone deaf. He was also roundly slammed for standing by the Second Amendment and suggesting such shootings don’t justify the watering of constitutional gun rights.
